is it true that you pretty much only meet your good friends freshman year?

No. I've made some very good friends this year (my sophomore year) but I have made significantly fewer friends than last year.

You meet friends it whatever classes you have then you recognize them around campus as you progress in your college career. By the time your Junior and Senior years roll around you pretty much know everyone in your major, because you have many classes with these people. This is at a big state university, so I can imagine its even more so at a small college.

The number of friends you make significantly decreases after your freshman year, but you can definitely still make very good friendships. Some of it depends on what size college you go to. I got to a very small college (900 undergrads, ~40 people in my major), so I rarely meet new people, but my relationships with people are always evolving. There are some people who I barely knew freshman year who I've become much closer friends with, and there are people I was constantly with freshman year that I only see occasionaly now. Plus, every year theres a fresh crop of new people to make friends with.

I am only a freshman, but I have made a ton of friends and I'm pretty sure we'll be friends for a long time. (We're that close.) I don't know, I hope I'm not being too optimistic...

Is it common for seniors and juniors to be close friends with freshmen?

I just finished my freshman year and am close friends with a few juniors, though most are freshman and sophomores
