Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

Staples has been running their back to school sales. This week they are also offering a $5 coupon to use on a $25+ purchase. The coupon is on the first page of the flyer that I picked up in the store. I think that it is online as well.

Neither my 18yo S or 11yo S want anything to do with LL Bean or Lands End. Both are due new backpacks this year, although D wouldn’t mind somekind of bag instead of a backpack. I keep a second set of books at home for her, so her load consists of 3 ring binders and notebooks mostly. S is off to college so it will need to accommodate those needs, whatever they are. Thoughts?

Go to REI or EMS. They have backpacks there. I personally like Jansport and my kids have appropriated everyone I have bought for myself!

Someone suggested today that they had scored North Face backpacks at TJ Maxx/Marshalls. I don’t know if that’s on the acceptable list for your son.

Got my dd a High Sierra Access high capacity laptop backpack last year. She loved it and it is still in great shape after a full year of abuse. It has so many cool things about it but the most important feature is that it has its own tuck away rain cover. They run different prices at different places but I can only recommend the access one. I bought it at my local JC Penny store. I know Kohls and other stores carry them as well.

Got men’s white handkerchiefs at a Bealls dept store in Florida on clearance today 95% off. Bought 10 dozen packs @ 40 cents each–120 cotton hankies for $4.00.

mamom, our Costco has a large supply of backpacks right now. I don’t recall the brand but it’s $15.99 and my teenage son thought it was fine. So did my husband. They’re both traveling now and using the packs as their carry-ons. They have found the packs nicely designed, with room for a laptop and other items. Colors available when I was there about a week ago were black, olive, a deep blue, and some prints.

What do you do with 120 cotton hankies? That sure is a lot of them! Don’t know many folks who use them these days. Even hubby has switched to using Viva paper towels instead of hankies. The kids just go thru mounds of Kleenix.

Yes, the Costco backpacks are reasonable & nice. Look to be good quality–unfortunately too large for our D (who is a petite 5’).

I bought a keyboard at Staples on sale (online) and with an extra 5.00 coupon and Staples sent me a 10.00 coupon which they also took and I had free shipping, so I’ll have it at my door in 2 days. I added some other sale “back to school” items so we are just about done.
I love that. : )
I also love that they, unlike some stores, they add the total before coupons and you get free shipping on that, some stores will say, you don’t have the 50.00 because of the coupons and want you to add more.

lizard–are you running a summer camp and need hankies for crafts? :D

Glad they are cotton
at that price I would expect some catch, like they are polyester. :(

I got a $99.00 tablecloth at Williams-Sonoma for $40.00. I rarely buy anything there. It’s so expensive, unless you get something on sale.

Another endorsement here for getting a quality backpack at EMS. Bought one for DS during junior year of HS and he is still using it even after graduating from college in May.

lizard, Let me know if you want to sell off a few packs of those hankies. My husband uses them at his band gigs when he starts perspiring on stage. Much less discreet for wiping up when he’s wearing a tux!

Here’s my un-deal of the day - I lost my Kohl’s cash! arrrgh!

ooo, lost Kohls cash
dagger to the heart kathiep.

I endorse the NorthFace backpack. S1 got his NF backpack freshman year of h.s and is still using it as a college senior.

^^Ditto. D’s NF backpack is still in very good shape after 3 years of college life and multiple plane trips across the country. It was worh every penny!

One thing that I carry with me at all times is a handkerchief. When I was in 4th grade one day I had a bad cold and sneezed a horrible, horrible mess all over me and my school desk–I didn’t have a hankie with me that day. I was so embarrassed and had to clean everything up with ruled school paper as best I could–I have never gone out without a handkerchief since–I was scarred for life! When I saw the hankies on sale, I jumped on them. Some of the packs were packaged with 13 included too so I ended up with even more than 120.

Mini good deal of the day
printer paper at staples 50 cents, index cards a penny, five pens free. No coupons, but the pens and paper had rebates. Yea! :)
