Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I bought 2 yesterday. Bought $10 coupons for $.50 each

I don’t understand how the restaurant certificates work. I got the same notice through a hilton honors e-mail and by clicking through the links I get to restaurants.com, same as the coupon link above. From there it says to find a restaurant, but all of the ones in my area have regular coupons where you pay $10 or $20 to get $25 restaurant coupon. What am I missing?

Thumper - your Building 19 sounds like great fun!

Great site I found that helps you save money while dining out.](http://www.restaurant.com/consumer-promotion/Promotion09291190-v3.asp?raid=6727&j=17070591&e=crtseb@**********&l=2058534_HTML&u=192192135&mid=77657&jb=645&prti=3801)

Select a restaurant. Put it in your ā€œbasketā€ and the discount will be applied there. I bought 5 of them for $5.50

The price on restaurants.com will be $10 UNTIL you put in the code wow…once you put that code in, the price is $1. I just bought one too…I’ll take two friends to lunch at one of our favorite places…easily can be a $35 bill but will actually only cost us $10…plus the $7 tip (which we would have been leaving if we paid $35 out of pocket). Oh…plus my $1…Three lunches at a nice place for $18 including the tip?..not bad.

Okay, knowing that the discount would be applied when I put it in my basket, I went back to access it through the Hilton site so I would get credit there. I bought 4 for $4 for an expensive steak house that I’ve been wanting to try but didn’t want to pay full price for. Not sure if we will really go four times, but it seemed funny to spend less then $4!

Is it also correct that the gratuity charge gets added (for most - they list the amount, often 18%) to your $1 then??? So then you don’t have to tip when you are at the restaurant??? That seems weird…

I feel stupid now. I bet they are saying the gratuity at the restaurant will be added to the total amount, not the discounted amount. Duh!

On the restaurant.com WOW deal, don’t forget to go thru the ebates.com site and get 15% rebate…
o.k., 15% of the $8 I spent is only $1.20, but…

They are saying to add at least an 18% gratuity onto what you pay BEFORE taking the discount from the coupon.

How does the restaurant coupon/gift card (not sure what they call it) work? For example, if you buy one for $25 and it requires a min purchase of $35, you pay $10 plus the 18% and tax? If you buy 4 for them, they are used then on 4 seperate visits to this restuarant? Thanks for explaining to a newbie. I have never ordered from this site.

I’m a newbie too…so is it like this…

Buy $25 for $1. If minimum purchases is $45 then you actually will pay $21 for the total meal if you spent exactly $45. Then you would add at least a 18% tip onto the $45 at the restaurant. Only 1 purchase can be used at each visit so if you buy 4 then, plan to visit that restaurant 4 times.

Is that correct?

abasket, I am guessing that is how it probably works. Can someone let us know?

One more question, how long does one have to use these gift cards/coupons?

abasket, terms are explained here:

https://www.theidealmeal.com/terms.asp?pgn=x#1</a></p>

Posters can disregard my questions.

Geez, I sure agree to a lot of things when I agreed to their TOS! Sounds like you got it right abasket.

Yes. That’s exactly how it works. By the way, the restaurant adds the 18%, not you. Which is fine with me since I generally tip 20%.

northeastmom: they never expire. I have one or two purchased almost a year ago. To restaurants I keep forgetting to go to. But I really don’t feel too badly about it. After all, I only wasted a dollar or two and I can eventually use them. There are some restaurants we’ve gone back to multiple times. We get better and better at spending exactly the $35 we’re supposed to.

And don’t feel obligated to purchase four to the same restaurant all at once. They have that 80% off sale at least once a month and you can only use it at the same restaurant once in a month.

I dove in and bought one! It’s to a favorite restaurant and the restrictions were not too strict! Figure there’s not much more lost than $1!!!

^^^gosmom, mr. rebates is offering 25% cash back. It’s a no brainer!

Trying to buy three more and it won’t go through. Guess the servers are overloaded.

kathie, I had a lot of trouble placing my order–pages did not load, it froze when I clicked a coupon that turned out to be sold out, etc. Eventually I got my order to go through. Thanks for the tip on this.

Dang! I lost 10% on my $8.00 purchase by using Ebates instead of Mr. Rebate!!!

Biggest loss of the day = life is good today!!!
