Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I want to buy something from Pottery Barn…does anyone have a current coupon or discount code? I tried looking online but didn’t find much.

Thanks for the VT tickets. Unfortunately, I am way too much to the left (on the West Coast.) Well, physically that is. :)

In some states, and from airports, car rentals can be crazy expensive. Go off airport, to another company, sometimes another state, prices drop. I usually check quite a few companies before picking one for a one way rental. And sometimes, yes, it just doesn’t work financially.

I hope this is a “good buy” and that I don’t regret it…

My D graduated and started a new job in a new city about 2 1/2 hours from home - she has her own health insurance but no dental currently…had her last cleaning at home and on our insurance this summer - her city was offering a GROUPON for a national dental chain - a $300 exam/cleaning/xrays for new patients for $35. I bought it figuring it gets her at least one cleaning and a chance to try a new office without too much investment. She has a choice of offices and one is pretty close to her apt.

HOPE it IS a good buy!!!

Nordstroms is having their big shoe sale. They have lots of Uggs on sale, as well as other boots.

abasket - Sounds like a good deal to me, the cleaning has to be worth more than $35. The quality of those chains can vary from one office to another depending on who is working there.

Regarding car rentals I always use copouns and discount codes. And National allows you to stack them. I will make a reservation using one set of codes, then look around and try others til I get my best deal. If it is cheaper than original reservation I cancel the original one and make a new one. Good thinking HImom.

Just talked with the Hertz guy at the hotel we’re driving to – he will allow us to return the car to the hotel after he closes up for the night & give him the key in the morning & just charge us for ONE hour beyond the 3 day rental, saving us about $50, so we’ll just have the one rental instead of breaking it up & having to hassle driving back to the airport to return & get a new car.

Cheryl’s has their 10 cookies for $10 and comes with a $10 Reward Card - ENDS TODAY though. It’s gift #84521. Ordered one for DD & room mates to arrive just before finals (used my welcome $10 off certificate so only paid $6.99 for shipping!).

Trying to decide what makes the most sense. We have decided to stay on the premises @ Colonial Williamsburg. We were going for the budget lodging at Governor’s Inn for $222 for 3 nights but decided to splurge for the Woodlands, which is a total of $366 for 3 nights. Am now flipflopping about whether to further upgrade & go with the Williamsburg Lodge–it’s just H & me–our 25th anniversary (we also honeymooned at CW in 1986). We hope to have several dinners with S, who will be in the area for training. Any guidance from anyone? The upgrade would $757, including breakfast, $60 in passes and $100 in a gift card both of which we’d use, meaning an extra $234 or so for the room & ambience there instead of Woodlands.

I’d go with the Lodge because of location and you’ll actually be in CW rather than have to rely on a shuttle. I always enjoy being a walk away from everything and particularly enjoy walking through CW at night.

The Woodlands is at the edge of CW and you can walk or take the shuttle. Thanks for those thoughts.

Just wanted to make sure you knew the distance from the Woodlands to the shops and restaurants around CW and the college. I had relatives who stayed there expecting a short walk and were very disappointed to find it was a couple of miles to the college.

Thanks–we will have a car as well & appreciate that there will be free parking for it. Think we’ll stick with the Woodlands, unless something major changes–might be easier to see S, who will be eating dinner with us when his schedule permits as well.

Have a great time. I spent many years in Williamsburg in school and love it there. I need to make a trip back there myself soon. It has been too long.

The Cheryl’s cookies can still be found by putting the item number (84521) into the search box. I didn’t have the free shipping so it would have been $16.99 for 10 cookies. I googled ‘Cheryl’s cookies coupon page’ and the first hit is their webpage authorized specials. The last one that is currently available is 6 free cookies with 6.99 shipping plus a $10 coupon for later use. I took advantage of that instead. Neither of these specials can be found by navigating their page for lowest priced items.

Thanks for the heads up Cali_mom!

Talk about good buys–when we were visiting CW at least 15 years ago with the kids, I bought a wooden cooking spoon in one of the shops. I use it all the time and wish I had bought several. It was pretty inexpensive. We stayed at the Lodge because of the pool.

OMG HImom!!! H and I honeymooned at CW in 1986!!! We were there in December – spectacular at Christmas time. We stayed at one of the individual little houses.

I love Colonail Williamsburg!! I have a photo of my DH and DS’s sitting on a stump there at my computer deskstation! We stayed at som condos nearby-- Kings something, IIRC. Was a while ago ( like 12 or more) so it may have changed names. Was pretty close to both CW and Busch Gardens, IIRC. Have a blast!

Ralph Lauren has up to 40% off sale on their website, with an additional 15% off until Nov 7. There are some great deals on cashmere sweaters.

I got a great deal today at Abercrombie & Fitch. My daughter needed a couple of pairs of jeans and they had 40% off their sale items. I found a couple of jeans that would work and went to check out. When one pair rang up full price at $78, I told the clerk I got them in the clearance section. He looked at the tag again and it was marked $9.90 After the discount, I left with two pairs of jeans for $30! Now that was a good buy!
