Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I have been looking to recover my sectional sofa for 2 year but found it too expensive between the fabric and the labor. I had finally given up and found a very cheap sofa and loveseat instead that if I was lucky wouldn’t fall apart in the next several years!

Boca Bargoons was having a 25% off sale of all fabrics and trims with another 10% off of you let their workroom do the recovering. I thought I would look one more time and low and behold there was a fabric I liked that worked well with my chairs in the family room. The fabric was originally $25 a yard, on sale for $19.99, and then $13.50 with my two discounts!! I did need a total of 45 yards with pillows and ottoman which is why I was having trouble finding a fabric. Usually they do not have bolts that big in a lot of fabrics, but this fabric was new and they had enough for me.

Adding to my great deal is their workroom was significantly cheaper than the upholsterer I usually use. I gave him the option to meet the price, but he couldn’t/wouldn’t do it. I am so excited to finally be able to get this sofa done as there are holes in the cushions and the seats are sinking in; my butt will be so happy!

Yea, I should re-cover our chairs as well but haven’t really gotten around to that (lazy, I know). I’m so glad you were able to find what you wanted. My SIL was able to find someone–they were originally going to buy new furniture but couldn’t find anything near what they wanted for a decent price with good quality. They looked & looked and FINALLY found the right furniture & upholsterer–looks better than ever!

NEmom–don’t make it to Kauai much myself but do love it there. Actually, I love all the islands and should make a point of spending more time on all of them. :)

YIPPEE!! Just bought D a ticket to come home for summer & go back to school in the fall. Out of pocket cost to me was under $60…plus $300 voucher from being voluntarily bumped from my flight in Dallas to take one a few hours later. I’m happy!

These area great deals! Awesome on the plane ticket, HImom. If son (as is likely) goes to a far-away school, I’ll be scouring the web for those for the next few years…

Congratulations HImom, that is a deal! We had our whole family bumped about 10 years ago when we flew back from Orlando at the end of Christmas vacation. That’s right, they were so oversold that they needed our 4 seats! They paid for a night at a local airport hotel with transportation included. We used our vouchers for RT tickets to California about 10 months later. It took me that long to be able to find a flight that would accept all 4 tickets on the same flight (wanted to fly together).

Going off to Woodbury Common now. I heard they have a lot of merchandise with few buyers - a lot of current season stuff at a discount. Will report back tonight.

We are in the midst of remodeling our bathroom/closet/kitchen, etc. Yesterday I got a new large front entry hall chandelier (triple tier, 15 bulb), dining room chandelier (double tier, 9 light), kitchen chandelier (6 light) with 3 matching pendants to hang over the island, and a bathroom 2 light bath bar (thats 3 chandeliers, 3 pendants and a bathroom fixture) for $1500. Thats less than the original cost of the front entry hall chandelier alone!

Our entire family was bumped once as well in our flight from LAX to HNL, many years back. We each got a voucher for $200 or so (can’t quite remember) + voucher for food & guaranteed seats on the flight a few hours later. Our flight landed before the flight we were bumped did, so we were happy but the others were steamed (they had sat on the tarmac, waiting while something was being serviced). Can’t quite remember what we did with our vouchers–think we used them toward a flight R/T HNL-CA, most likely.

I love this thread. There has been a Nordstrom’s Rack near me since before christmas and i haven’t been there yet - this is giving me the urge to shop - have gotten good deals at the Mall of America Nordstrom’s Rack.

The best things I’ve bought there are shoes and nice blouses for myself & D. Have also seen some nice bras–high-end brands and great prices. They didn’t fit me just right but good to keep an eye on.

Jackpot

NM Last Call, a jacket/shirt originally 200, marked down to 80, 35% off, then 20% off on everything today. We walked out with 10+ items, cost what I would normally pay for one item at NM.

Betsey Johnson - a whole rack of dresses for $75.

H got a lot of things at Barney’s - everything 20% off of lowest price.

I got 3 Tod’s shoes for price of 1.

Didn’t even make it into Coach to get some gift items (heard they are hurting with a lot of mark downs). Definitely saw a lot of their shopping bags around.

I got a printer scanner copier combo for $60 at sam’s club. I went looking around for a similar module at different stores and its originally $100.

Plus this one comes with a USB cord and the others didn’t.

I feel lucky.

I was just fooling around with mortgage calculators & pre-payments. Hubby & I are working on prepaying what we can so that he can actually contemplate retiring someday while we still have the health to enjoy it.

We figured we can nearly cut the remaining life of our mortgage by more than 1/3 by paying an extra $750/mo, so we’re going to see how we can swing it. We never plan to sell the house and once H retires we will less to live on. This “good buy” will require an extended time to implement but we feel good about it.

Bought 4 new long-sleeved cotton blouses @ $15 apiece (normally $78 apiece) at Nordstrom’s Rack. Also bought two gorgeous jackets @ 75% off (value $400 & $275 respectively). VERY HAPPY!

Son says he’s 90 % sure he wants to go to a beautiful college which will leave him w/zero loans & us w/about $3k a year in parental contribution. Other choice was $111,000 in cosigned parental/student loans.

Pretty good buy which I fervently hope proves to be a good value to son in the future!

Great news - congratulations, Jolynne!

Jolynne, that is a fabulous buy ;)!

I was too busy to shop last weekend. Does a truckload of plants qualify as a good buy? We left “only” $200 at the nursery.

Congratulations! Hope he enjoys his time and learns a lot too.

Looking for Season 2 of Doctor Who. It was $99 at Barnes & Noble. Found it for $69 at Fry’s Electronics!

Thanks! Until we get the final details worked out, it’s not ‘official’ – but son is 95 % sure.

Somehow, the ‘best buy’ thread seemed v. appropriate! I do hope he learns a lot, too.
