Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

The restaurant.com website is JAMMED! I have 3 certificates in my cart, but don’t seem to be able to sign in to my account! Hope I have the patience to see this through!

I meant to post this last month, so it will be too late for Christmas gifts, but a deal anyway. American Express Rewards is having a sale until 12/31/11, up to 40% off. I think it depends on your card as my son doesn’t see the offer when he logs into his account. We have an Amex Gold for one of the office cards and I was able to get gift cards at 40% of their normal value. I also saw many merchant items, including an iPad at 40% off; this is using points, not cash.

Money has been tight here, so scooping up $400 in gift cards will spend nicely! I look at it as found money as we weren’t using the points for anything else.

My husband also has a BP gas card for business purposes and found out it also had points; he never paid any attention to it in the past. He was able to get a gas gift card with those points; again, found money!

Just a reminder to check those credit cards that earn points, especially if you have never cashed them in.

I’ve been trying to create an account on Restaurant.com all morning and haven’t been able to. I have a $10 certificate in my cart for .50.

I have never used this site. Do most of the restaurants have a fairly high minimum purchase? The restaurant for which I bought the coupon has a $25 coupon, but I have to purchase $50 worth of food to use it. I would never buy that much at this particular restaurant so I had to the $10 with a minimum purchase of $20.

snowball- thanks for that tip.
Another place that you might not know you have award points is Verizon. Our business uses Verizon for our phones. You earn points that can be redeemed for gift cards.
update- my american express card is not a gold. My account is showing reward gifts at 20% off

cartera45, yes…I have been to the site to investigate places in DS1’s college town, but the “minimums” seem to run $50-75. I haven’t purchased because of that constraint.

mom60-Mine also showed 20% today, while last week it was 40%. That said, when I logged in, it still showed the gift cards at 40% and a few other things; I didn’t look to see what else was selling at the 40% off. Might be worth logging in just to make sure if you haven’t already.

We also have our Delta Skymiles Amex and the office Gold on the same log in, so I just assumed it would be for most. Maybe only the Gold is 40% and the other Amex cards are 20%? You can also called the Rewards number for help.

snowball- I did log in and it is 20% off which is still a decent savings. I don’t have a ton of points right now anyway since I used them recently to pay for a hotel.
But your post reminded me about the option of gift cards with reward programs. I logged into our Verizon business and ordered some gift cards. Those are definitely free money. Those points have no other uses. With Verizon the amount of points needed varies from card to card.

mom60- At least you found a credit card that helped you out. We also have a Visa card that my husband didn’t know had reward points; I was able to get enough gift cards to pay for an 80th birthday party for my father at a restaurant for 50 people  At the time he was having all the bills sent to him electronically and I never saw them. I happened to have received an email from Visa Rewards as I guess my husband had those emails go to me. When he gave me the log in and I saw the points, I was a happy camper. The restaurant had no problem taking the cards for payment as they were Visa gift cards, so used just like a credit card. My dad enjoyed his party and I was happy not to be out of pocket for the cost ;)

The sale I saw on AmEx was for 50% of normal points. I bought a bag from Saks at 50% off by using my points. They have many merchants participating.

I’m a day late for the Land’s End promotion. Anybody know when they’ll run it again? Shipping is $11 on a $50 order which seems high to me.

I use restaurant dot com all the time.
Our zip code has a good selection of places that participate.
I just wait for the 80% off emails that they send me and log in and purchase then.

Most of the places do have restrictions…like only M-TH and some minimum purchase.
But I think they no longer expire which is great.

I can buy a $25 coupon for $2 our favorite neighborhood mom and pop italian place with $35 required purchase. That’s about perfect for a fine meal for us two. So meal ends up being about $12 plus tip. Love it.

^^Mine say nothing about expiring.

I am still holding onto a few that I bought nearly 3 months ago! Just can’t seem to get there. I am not buying any more of those coupons until I use all of the ones that I have (2 exceptions: a take out place my family likes, and a restaurant that is within walking distance).

Just went to Macy’s. Son’s GF is visiting and I wanted to have a gift for her. She had eyed an Ann Klein tote when we were there earlier in the week. It was 20% off on the weekend. Today it was 40% off and I had a coupon for another 20%. I was happy. I also noticed they had Lucky handbags 25% off plus you can use your coupon. Lucky does not regularly get discounted at Macy’s. I save money though by not buying my D the little cross body Lucky bag she had wanted. I already have spent way too much money on that kid!

Got a brand new pair of Not Your Daughter skinny jeans for $5. Believe me, I would NEVER have bought them for $100 plus. Also a pair of Bandolinoblu black cords…$1. What a great day!!

WHERE, thumper??

Gotta be her local Goodwill. She scores there all the time!

Actually not GW…this was a local consignment shop that was having a “sale”. All the green tags were $1 and all the blue tags were $5. Score!

Kohls sends so many emails ,but today’s has coupon for $10 use in store only by dec 24th …no minimum purchase .no exclusions

Darn, I didn’t get THAT from Kohl’s!!! ^^^
