Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

I have to look at some luggage for my daughter who is going to study abroad…many of our friends said “TJMaxx!” when I mentioned looking, even her hair dresser, for great deals. I did see some pieces there selling for much more on the web, one Samsonite 29inch for 89.00, 149.00 online.
While I"m there, I"ll gravitate over to the bags to see if any new ones have arrived.

There were a LOT of excellent suitcases at TJMaxx yesterday including one that was ultra light weight…and only $59.99 for a regular suitcase. It was a funny print too.

When we were shopping for luggage in Sept 2010 for our daughter…we found that the prices at Kohls, Macys were the SAME as at TJMaxx…with better selections at Kohls and Macys. Things are ALWAYS on sale at Kohls and Macys.

Have fun shopping.

Yes, I got a nice big red Samsonite one for 99.00. (soft sided)They had similar ones online at Kohls but the cheapest was 139.00 or149.00. With coupons though, I would have had it close.
She still will need another next year if she goes away for the year (still not 100% accepted yet) but this will be fine for a 5 wk summer program.

They had more bags out, a lot of pebble leather but I’m still looking for a more soft leather bag. I’m sure by April they will have lots more.

I remember my mom got a $150 set at Kohls and with sale and cupons it was like $40 :/

Wow, that’s great! I’ll have an eye out for another smaller one and she is looking for a backpack to carry on, she’s been using a tote at college the last year or so.

This thread convinced me to drive the 45 minutes to TJ Maxx. None of the handbags. I love a lightweight crossbody bag for travel. My old one has fallen apart. I replaced it with a similar shaped leather bag which is pretty but much heavier.
No bags at TJ Maxx but I was impressed with their overall handbag selection. I had not been in TJ Maxx in years and it looks like they have improved the quality of the merchandise. I also hit Nordstrom Rack and Target. I didn’t come back with much but that is how it goes. It is hit or miss.

Amazing that you have to drive so far for one. I work within a mile of a TJ Maxx and within half-a-mile of a Marshalls. Our grocery store is next to a Marshalls and there’s a TJ Maxx within 1/2 mile of that. We could go north for a few miles and there’s a Marshalls that I know of and probably a TJ Maxx nearby. It seems like they are all over the place in New England.

You do get spoiled, I have one TJ/Marshall’s one town away, 10-15 minutes away and another 30 minutes away, but the closer ones are larger and the TJ has more homegoods.
I also love them for things like socks, I always seem to find nice ones on clearance, a cashmere blend the other day, under 4.00 and athletic socks very inexpensive. They also can’t be beat for most of their athletic clothes and brands.

TJ Maxx/HomeGoods is my absolute guilty pleasure. :)

I think the selection of purses and luggage is awesome. If you’re looking for a single good piece of luggage I think it’s the place to go. If you looking for a set, it might be a little harder to find there.

Half my home is now furnished from Homegoods. Some good buys the last year or so include a darling large comfy side chair for our basement redo, a gorgeous area rug (8x10) for the living room, all of our bedding needs, pictures frames, cute ottomans for extra seating on our sun porch - the list goes on and on!

I bought a bunch of Merino Wool socks at Marshalls this past winter on a recommendation in the Diet/Exercise thread. They had 65% Merino socks for about $5-$7 and 30% Merino socks for about $3. I saw the same socks at Bob’s for $20-$22.

Speaking of socks…I got Hot Socks for $1 a pair at a real store.

Found a mail-in rebate offer at the grocery store yesterday sponsored by Heineken. Wasn’t going to buy beer anyway, but the pad of rebate forms caught my eye. Interestingly in my state I can submit the rebate offer WITHOUT BUYING ANY BEER. So the rest of the deal was: get a $10 rebate by mail for buying $15 worth of “salty snacks”. Well, S2 is home on break and I was loading up on chips and popcorn anyway. Just had to add one more bag to hit the $15. So Heineken will now be paying me to snack and we don’t even like Heineken beer! Offer good thru 4/4/12 and the states where no beer purchase is required are: AL, AR, CT, HI, KY, ME, MO, NC, NJ, PA, UT, WV.

Told my S who needed a carry on bag to try TJ Maxx. He said he found one. I asked if he shopped around and he said no he found several he liked at TJ Maxx. He hates to shop (except at Best Buy) so I’m sure the fact that he didn’t have to go to the mall helped.

So thanks.

I live in the middle of no where now. The nearest anything is an hour away, except for Wal Mart and Meijer. No Home Good within 2 hours. I used to live so close to everything, this is quite an adjustment.

BCEagle- We do have 2 Ross stores nearby. The quality of the merchandise is very hit or miss. The last 6 months it has not had any higher quality merchandise. We recently got a Marshall’s which I went to once. I found the selection to not be that great and the prices didn’t seem that low.
The weird thing is we do not have a Target but if I drive 45 minutes south I have my choice of 4 different Targets to go to. Two of the Target’s are within a mile of each other.
Making the choice to hit the discount stores is pretty much as all day affair. Not just stopping in for a few minutes to see what they have. I didn’t find much yesterday but luckily the drive was nice, along the coast with warm temps and great visability.

Have to get to a TJMaxx. Was planning to go yesterday, but couldn’t get there in time.

Went to Kohls to buy a sports coat for S. 85$ coat - with all my 10$ off coupons, a 15% off coupon and Kohls cash, paid 29$ for it :)

I went back to TJMaxx today to check out their Bagallini stock. I was hoping they would get more of the large zipper bag model (2 zippers on the front, 2 zipper sections on the top), but they were all out of them. I did pick up a small Bagallini–the mini everyday model.

They did have one well organized Kipling everyday bag, but I didn’t want bright orange.

At the Lands End section of my local Kmart, I bought my H a pair of Men’s Lands End Jeans that were on clearance-----an additional 75% off the clearance price. The price of the jeans ended up being $8.75.

Every once in a while LLBean has a product that is especially nice for the money. This is one that falls into that category:

[Vintage field watch](http://img.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/v207/theantiduck/P1060368.jpg)
[Vintage field watch 2](http://cdni.llbean.com/is/image/wim/249263_0_41?rgn=256,512,1280,1280&scl=1.9676492939079&id=3OwMT_FP28yuvCBvOrpcij)

Men’s watches are a nightmare. You can spend the price of a car and end up with something that is just too much for a Saturday afternoon trip to Home Depot or to the gym. But, all the cheap beater stuff is butt ugly. Either plastic Chinese disposable junk or gaudy cheap “bling” nasty.

This is a Swiss made battery powered watch that is solid as a rock – brushed stainless steel, simple classic design. Standard men’s watch size. High quality, but not so over the top that you can’t mow the lawn wearing it. The perfect $99 watch.

It comes with two quick change military style nylon straps – one black and one olive green which are nice enough. Or you can put a leather strap on it. I’m putting one of these[/url”>http://www.strappedfortime.com/images/DSCN4467.JPG]these on mine:

Anyway, if you’ve got hubbies or sons who are in need of an everyday beater watch, this is a really nice product.

I got a little rush when I saw my daughters luggage from TJMaxx on sale at Kohls today…the same luggage 21 inch is 139 and i got 29 inch for 99.00. : )

I love TJMaxx for luggage. I found a suitcase there 2 years ago that was over $300 online and I paid $99 at TJMaxx for the same one. It was $125 at TJMaxx and then ended up in clearance for $99. I grabbed it!
