@jym626, the list you linked to is not complete. I read it as 14 people who signed on as of that year/moment in time. I have no idea if Oprah has pledged or not but I interpret only that she did not sign on in May 2017.
ETA: OK, reread and those 14 people join 154 people who have already signed up. I didn’t go searching so don’t know if Oprah is among the 154.
Here’ stheir website. It has the members listed alphabetically. https://givingpledge.org/ with photos. There are some young faces in the uber-wealthy from around the world.
^^NBC is reporting $40M, but I think that has to be wrong as there are only 400 grads. Generous no matter how much, but I think the Press is guessing at the numbers.
Bealls has 50% off site-wide, an additional 15% off, and a 25% off code (as of yesterday: welcome 25 and/or 2525). I have a D moving across the country for 2 years who will be setting up a new apartment. I ordered her a circulon set of pans and a Henckels knife block set for a ridiculously low price. I will even get a few % back since I went through a cash back site.
I normally don’t post good buys that other people can’t access but today is an exception. I’m a bargain hunter and really work hard to buy things at a discount. Dh rarely, almost never shops and needed a new suit for a wedding . I"m sure it’d been at least 10 years since he’d bought one. Since he doesn’t share my joy in seeking out a bargain, we went to one store, were helped by a very good salesman who had us spending $$$ on not only a suit but a shirt, tie and shoes. They’re all really lovely and dh looks great but most definitely not on sale. We left the suit to be altered and, when picking it up today, I noticed a ‘BOGO on suits and ties’ sign. I asked and they said they’d honor the sale! The first suit dh picked up was less than 1/2 what he paid the week before. He tried on that one and a much pricer one which he liked better. He then selected a tie and went to the register and paid…$22!
D is visiting and forgot two of her Rx. She tried to order refills online at cvs.com. I spoke with the pharmacist yesterday & today to get what she needs and was able to pick them up for the nominal copay (pharmacist got approval from the prescribing MDs and the insurer vacation over-ride). Phew—glad it was $7 apices instead of >$100 apiece.
Got a $6 off $30 purchase coupon and bought cute sets of potholder, oven mitt & matching dish towel in cute Hawaiian prints to give as gifts. They were normally $9 but on sale for $4. After the discount coupon, they were just over 1/3 of the regular price! Thanks, CVS!
I was toying with the idea of upgrading my oxygen equipment for travel and asked the guy who sold it to me whether he had any suggestions. He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. He’s going to trade my old equipment for a new, smaller machine that will better meet my needs and give me an extra charger and a backpack to wear it with. I’m very pleased because it will fit MUCH better on the airplane than my larger, more clunky machine! He’s going to do all of that for only a nominal fee instead of the $3000-5000 that most other companies would charge.
I also bought a new pair of Eagle Creek compression packing cubes on Rakuten.com during the Eagle Creek Sale and they’re shipping it in 3 days to our home! I think this will make living out of a suitcase in our upcoming trips much more pleasant! I can hardly wait!
@abasket, I’m not familiar with Bealls either. In poking around their website, it doesn’t appear to be a store I’d normally pursue but Circulon and Henckels, name brands, work for me!
Beall’s is more like Kohls than Dillards in appearance (one large floor of mostly clothing, shoes, and household stuff). It carries a lot of the lines my kids like - Roxy, Hang Ten, Jessica Simpson, Billabong. They have a ton of coupon deals and I’ve often bought $60 dresses for $10.
I like to do simple quilting and I’ve watched videos about ‘Jelly Rolls’, which are a roll of 2.5" by 42" strips of complimentary colors and you can make a quilt top out of them. I found two at the thrift store last week and paid $4 each. When I got home I looked them up and the are available on Amazon for $45. EACH. I really wanted to try pre-cut strips and this lets me do it for a bargain.
If you read books on a Kindle check out today’s deals. My Dear Hamilton: A Novel of Eliza Schuyler Hamilton is $1.99. I’m also considering News of the World: A Novel.
I bought my D and SIL 4 beach towels from Kohl’s on Memorial Day. Originally $23.99 each, so about $96 for the 4. They were on sale, along with my Kohl’s cash, Memorial day savings and another $10 off any $25 purchase, I ended up paying $17 and some change total. $8.95 of that was shipping!
I made a small OTC meds purchase at CVS yesterday. Buy 1 get 2nd 50% off. I saw 50% off pop up on the screen and then paid. Outside the store, I looked at the receipt. $6.29 for the first item, $4.40 for the second??? It should have been $3.14. After returning to the store and w a i t i n g for a manager, I got both for free. BEWARE at CVS. The manager told the cashier that he should be looking at the receipts to make sure they are calculated correctly. (What?)
FTD: I ordered flowers to be sent as a thank you and I specifically did not want roses. Guess what they delivered? Roses! I asked for a 50% refund, which they granted. I could have asked for the full amount, but I’m aware that FTD has filed Chapter 11. The recipients were happy with their flowers, but I had chosen to send a bouquet of Gerbera Daisies.
I wanted to rent a car in NYC for July 4th weekend. Every time I checked the rate was around $200/day. Tonight I just gave it another shot and found $50/day at Brooklyn Heights (right around D1’s apartment). I think it was a computer glitch because it was the only rental that’s at that price around tri-states, but I will take it.
