Your Good Buy Of The Day (Part 1)

This is one of my FAVORITE threads. I check for it every day looking for some good deal. I’ve found a number of them here. Too bad we don’t need towels!!

I was hoping to build momentum for CCers to post great Groupon offers on this thread so we’d be able to find them easily each day: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/978738-have-you-used-groupon-love.html</a></p>

thumper, good to hear from you, even if you don’t need towels!

Ebates offers a 3% rebate on Groupon purchases. Many thanks to the poster who turned me on to Ebates!

mapesy, Mr. Rebates is offering 8% back on Groupon today. Enjoy!

Thanks, worrywart! I’ve never heard of Mr. Rebates. I’ll check it out.

I buy a fair amount on Groupon. There’s a site that lists all the Groupons each day that are offers that people outside of the listing city can use (mostly products or services online). I don’t know how to post the link here or I would. I just signed up for Mr. Rebates–thanks for the suggestion. Before buying something on Groupon, do I need to go to Mr. Rebates and buy it through that site?

Yes you do, collage1. Same goes for every merchant listed on Mr. Rebates. I save hundreds of dollars each year that way. I find that Mr. Rebates typically offers a higher cash back percentage than Ebates.

How does the cashback compare to upromise’s cashback?

Collage1, is this the Groupon listing you mentioned? I went looking for it when you mentioned there was one and this came up:

[Mrs. Moneysaver ? Coupons, freebies and money saving tips](http://www.mrsmoneysaver.com/)

You have to scroll down to a weekday to see the Groupons listed.

Looks like it might pay to shop the different rebate sites before making a purchase. I checked out Mr. Rebates last night, and many rebates are indeed higher than those on Ebates (thanks again for the heads up, worrywart!). However, it doesn’t look like it holds true in every case.

Also, different rebate sites have different participating merchants. Last week I made a purchase from Frontgate through Ebates. Frontgate is not listed on the Mr. Rebates site.

FatWallet is another rebate site that is mentioned positively in write ups about these sites.

Now, if I can just remember to use these sites when I make an online purchase!

My “good buy” of the day…well it’s not really a buy…I earned $60 in Kohl’s cash a few weeks ago. Unfortunately we forgot to head out to Kohls last week to use it, so it expired… made a call to the local store’s Customer Service to find out that they will indeed honor it - so we’re off to go shopping!

Don’t throw those coupons away!!

30% off and free shipping at Lands End this weekend. Men’s Cotton t-s for $7. Long-sleeve cotton t’s and mock turtlenecks: $10.50, and not just the closeout colors.

I don’t want to spoil the party, but my extremely computer and web-savvy son claims that all the rebate web site are EXTREME identity theft risk (can steal your passwords when you log on to various accounts, etc.)

When he once saw something like that on my computer, not only he made me delete every trace of it, he does not even log onto his email on my computer any more (claims it can’t be trusted if I am in charge of it :(…)

It would take considerable evidence to scare me away from Mr. Rebates (and I scare easily). I’ve been using it for a couple of years without problem. It also passes muster from Norton: [Norton Safe Web, from Symantec - report for mrrebates.com](<a href=“Report for www.mrrebates.com]Norton | Norton Safe Web”>http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=www.mrrebates.com). That said, each of us has our own comfort levels. And yes, I always compare the % cash back offered on Mr. Rebates, Ebates, and USAA Membershop before choosing one.

You are lucky JustAMom, Kohls would not honor ours a week later!

Wow, I’m with USAA and had never known about MemberShop! It’s now bookmarked…

Got S2 a 100% wool pea coat on Overstock last night – $61 plus $1 shipping. We are both pretty psyched.

Sorry, abasket, that stinks! Just got back from Kohls and they were nice as can be. This one expired on Tuesday (today is Sunday). Guess it varies by store…

abasket,
When I clicked on the link in your post and scrolled down, I found the reference to groupon but it made me log in and then brought me to my local page. I’ll try posting the link here–this lists all the online options in which case it doesn’t matter where you live.

[Groupon Roundup | Summary of Groupon deals in US cities today](http://www.grouponroundup.com/)

For some reason I thought we weren’t allowed to post websites but hopefully I’m wrong!

Thanks!, collage1!

I write the Groupon Roundup blog. There are two posts per day. One has the Groupon deals for every city. The other post is all the deals that can be used by anyone (in any city or town) because they’re redeemable online.

Groupon Roundup is the only aggregator run by a human so my has the most complete lists. Other aggregators are run by bots and so they miss several deals and post deals that aren’t really national.

I hope that helps!
