Your honest opinion @ some very selective schools?

(My other thread got a little disorganized so I'm reposting, sorry!)

Hi, I'm a senior done with apps but so anxious to hear back from schools in April! I'm just wondering where y'all think I've got a shot at getting in. Dartmouth is my top choice, except for maybe Princeton and Stanford but I don't think I have much hope there so I'm not taking them very seriously lol :) I'd be ecstatic if I got in, but I dont have any expectations

GPA: 4.94/5 unweighted, 5.72/5 weighted [upward trend, some Bs in math early on but straight As for the past two years]. All honors/AP except for foreign language (got the National Latin Exam medals all three years though, some other awards in the subject too)

Rank: school doesn't rank, but at least top 5% at a large, top public

SAT: 2330 (770m/770r/790w) [national merit]

SAT II: 790 lit/780 ush (didn't submit 740 math ii unless 3 were required - hope that was the right move?)

APs: 5s on USH, Euro and Lang: taking six in May

ECs: - Volunteer at charity (6 hrs/week, 6 years), run summer/kids camps/fundraisers/some other specific things in addition to the normal volunteer work [wrote my EC essay about this group and how I learned to create opportunities for involvement, its a cause I'm really committed to]
- Started an art service to raise money for said charity (10 hrs a week, 3 years) I've worked for some big websites, several hundred commissions over the years
- Violin/orchestra (7hrs/week, 9 years) "honors orchestra"
- Yearbook/photography (3 hrs, 2 years) [also a volunteer photographer for several charities]
- School art publication, submission editor (3 hrs)
- A few other random clubs like NHS, political discussion and service (not much depth with these)
- I've been teaching myself Japanese for the past year or so, did a college class in it (random...dunno if thats worth mentioning)

Essays: Wrote about art (not sure how to evaluate since its subjective but my teachers/GC liked it) my style uses lots of imagery but I toned that down a bit haha

Recs: Didn't read them, but GC said they were very good, I've known the teachers for multiple years. I participate a lot in class and my GC said that he and both teachers wrote about "intellectual curiosity" and love of learning

Schools:
Dartmouth
Amherst
Williams
Duke
Middlebury

Thanks for reading! I'll "chance back" if you want me to, but I'm not an expert haha...

You obviously have a solid chance at all these schools, based on your academic record. Whether you get in or not is unpredictable at this point, as we haven’t read your applications. But, you certainly have enough EC’s to be a serious contender. Anyone who tells you aren’t is oblivious. Did you interview at all these schools?

My only advice is to relax. Obsessing by asking for feedback after you have applied doesn’t make sense. You went for it and you will get into one or more of these schools. Hopefully, you have some other choices, so you feel you have options if you need them. Relax, and enjoy your senior year.

Thanks!
I’ve interviewed for Dartmouth, it went well I think, and Princeton is coming up. I should have a lot more interviews in the future, I just haven’t heard from them yet…
I probably should learn to relax more, haha :)

Wow.
You have a great chance at any school you could possibly apply to. You sound like a very well-rounded, put-together person. Good luck!

I think you have a shot at all. Stats are good; ECs a little weak, though.

Personally, I think his or her ECs are fine, even better than fine, and he or she may even have an art-passion hook.

Very impressive!!! Good luck!

Thanks! Yeah my ECs are probably sorta weak for these schools.

Its kinda embarrassing, but to be honest, I didn’t even know until a few months ago that schools look at extracurriculars, and by that point I didn’t have many opportunities left for resume building :frowning: But I suppose the upside to that would be that the things I have done reflect my genuine interests

^^^ I know for a fact that schools will appreciate that a lot more than padding up a resume.

Your ECs are definitely not “weak” by the way.

I agree with everyone else. You have a solid shot at all of these schools based on your academic record. Your EC are not very weak because, as you said, they reflect your genuine interests. Good luck!

You have pretty decent chance.

Good Luck!

Thanks, I hope so :)
