Your Intended Major(s)!

Any thoughts on a double in aero/astro and philosophy? Maybe I'll just minor. I think philosophy sounds really interesting, but I'd also like to have a career some day. :-P

yeah, someone on hall is doing 6 and 8 and he's pretty much always angry. I think overlap can be way overshadowed by the fact that they're two very difficult majors.

8 and 12 is a good combination (some overlap, and EAPS is one of the easier science majors).

16 and 24 is not too difficult at all, considering philosophy satisfies HASS requirements :) But word of warning, that was me (16 + 24 that is). Then I actually took a philosophy course and realized that I quite hated the discipline.

Well, and it's hard to double with 16 because there are so many classes required for the major, yeah?

Yeahhhh, I noticed. :P. Silly Adam and his staying-up-until-4. :/. 8/16 seems like suicide.

Although I have a new ace in my sleeve for 8/18C. Let's pray things work out...

I, being the nerd I am, planned out an 16 + 8b track on 5 or 6 pieces of paper. A lot of requirements. It's possible, but requires more than one term of 5 classes. And these aren't like... 4 hass + 1 science = 5 classes, these are like... quantum + relativity + unified + unified + hass = 5 classes. yeah.

Yeah, my boyfriend was originally interested in 16 with an 8 minor. (And I was the one doing the course planning for him, because he couldn't make a plan if it hit him in the head.)

He is taking 66 units this semester, so it's possible to take more than 4 classes a term as a course 16 major... but as Timur notes up there, he's doing a lot of not-sleeping to do it.

I'm 80% sure my major will be Mech Eng. The other 20% wants to take some Econ classes before I make my final decision.

Hamster- I'm in a similar situation... I want to do Aero/Astro or Mech (haven't decided yet) and possibly Lit... but it'd probably be a lot easier just to minor in Lit...

If you are thinking about doubling, it will probably fall into place for you as you finish your first couple of semesters and find out how good you are and how much work you want to do. I'm 18 and 6, which is a relatively easy double major since 18 has so few requirements

Does anyone know if it's possible to double major in 18 and 20?
Has it been done?

either course 6 or 3 (single) major with course 9 and 15 (double) minors... reasonable?

Any double is possible... people used to quad major back in the day when it was allowed.. and I know people doing basically that right now. Double minor is a little ridiculous though IMHO, you'll see once you get into it.

Why is double minoring ridiculous? I'm curious why you think so...

There's simply not much point to it.. you can take classes in both of the 'minors' but theres not really any reason to actually minor in them both... maybe you can minor in one and concentrate in the other, or double major and concentrate...
I just don't think it will happen, intuitively its a little silly to me.. you'll see

|| stands for "or" in Java?

hope to see many of you soon!

@MIT2010: Yes, Brain and Cog. Science sounds very interesting to me. I probably will take it as a double or minor besides computer science. However, my country doesn't provide courses like psychology, anatomy, etc. ; so do you think I can take Brain and Cog. Science with a completely fresh start?

There's not any background knowledge required to be a brain and cognitive sciences major.

If you're interested in the major, I would recommend taking 9.00 (Intro to Psych) as soon as you can, which would be spring semester of your freshman year. It's a HASS-D, which is nice.
