your kind favour

Hi, I am an international student from India.

I wish to apply to Cornell for applied economics and management major and wish you to kindly rate my chance.

My SAt 1 scores are 1970 (730 Math; 620 CR and Writing)

Will be giving TOEFL and SAT 2 in Chem, Phy, Math II

I am from a pvt school in New Delhi following national board of CBSE. My grade 10 percentage was 92% and this year mid-term (result awaited) will be aroung 70-75%.

My EC are relatively strong.

To be honest I don’t think you will get in. Sorry.

What courses are you taking?
I’d say you have a shot at it. We must keep in mind that the his SAT’s will obviously not be up to US standards as, presumably, his school does not spend course time studying for it.

Well…first and foremost…AEM is very competitive to begin with. You do have some unique ECs that would help you.

Are you planning to apply for financial aid? That makes a big difference as admission is not need-blind for international students.

If you do well on your TOEFL, I’d say you have a shot. A good TOEFL score would be somewhere around 112 and up.

You mean the J8 summit (G8 summit is for world leaders/adults), for students in high schools in Japan this year right?

Your 1350/1600 SAT I scores are well within Cornell University’s mid-range for matriculated students. Cornell is highly competitive for admissions, but you are competitive numbers-wise. Much may depend upon your application essays & recommendations. I think that you have an above average chance of getting in.

Thanks everyone…I am trying to get better scores in TOEFL.

As for the financial aid my parents’ income bracket is quite poor so I will have to apply for the financial aid…

I attended the G8 as a youth representative only at one function. It was a competition I won and was there to discuss issues of climate change with ministers of the 13 countries.

I understand Cornell is highly competitive and I stand an average chance but I hope to get in.

Anyways please can you suggest me other universities (providing financial aid to international students) where I can stand a stronger chance.

Currently I decided to apply to the following:

 1. U Chicago (Economics)
 2. Stanford (Economics)
 3. Cornell (AEM)
 4. Washington University in St. Louis (Olin)
 5. Brown (Economics)
 6. Harvard (Economics)
 7. Amherst (Economics)
 8. Villanova (business)

Are you sure you wish to apply for Stanford and Brown. They are both stingy to international students.

Btw the courses:

Grade 11 & 12 (CBSE - Certificate Board of Secondary Education)

*Physics
*Chemistry
*Mathematics - trignometry, inverse trigno, full calculas, relations, functions, matrices, determinants, vectors and 3D, linear programming, probability
*English
*Economics - both macro and micro, statistics and indian case study

Grade 9 and 10: ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education)
*English
*Mathematics
*Physics
*Chemistry
*Biology
*History/Civics
*Geography
*Economic Applications
*Environmental Education
*Hindi (Second language)

I’m still not sure if it’s incredibly likely, since Cornell is not need blind to internationals. However, it’s worth a shot.
