Your Opinion - Rank The Publics

Forget about USNWR - rank these top publics in your opinion.

(in no order)
UCLA
Berkeley
SUNY
Washington
Texas
Penn State
Rutgers
Wisconsin
UConn
UMinn-Twin Cities
Iowa
Florida
UMD-College Park
Indiana-Bloomington
Missouri
Georgia Tech
Illinois-Urbana-Champaign
UVA
CU-Boulder
Arizona
UMass-Amherst
UNC-CH
UVM

(u-michigan)
uva
unc ch
ucla
berkeley
georgia tech
urbana champaign
wisconsin

not sure about the rest

oops i forgot michigan!

I added some in:

-UCB, UVA
--Michigan, UCLA
---UNC, Wisconsin, UIUC, William and Mary
----Ga Tech, Texas, UCSD

Top 10 Publics, ranked IMO, based more on location than any other factor (I added a few since I'm not looking at them for their "academic prestige" according to USNWR):

Texas-San Antonio

CU-Colorado Springs

Arizona State

UCSD

SUNY-Brockport

Missouri-Columbia

UNLV

UCSB

Southern Florida

Washington

griff, how does suny brockport fit into your list, lol??? I'd replace it with stony book, much much closer to NYC.

My list would be something like...

Berkeley
UCLA
UVA
UMich
UNC-Chapel Hill
UDelaware
UIUC

I like western NY, and not so much NYC. I'm basing it on location's where I would like to live for one reason or another.

my school deserves to be listed in the OP

ranked #1 in commitment to undergrad teaching last time USNWR did it.

not having the state in our name doesn't make us private =P

ahhhh. If you're into more western NY, try SUNY Genseo - one of the top suny schools. Most of the top people from my HS went there.

1) Berkeley (by a long shot)

2) UVA
3) Michigan
4) UNC

1 University of California-Berkeley

12 Indiana University-Bloomington

12 Purdue University-West Lafayette

12 University of Maryland-College Park

12 University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

12 University of Washington

The coolest thing about Wisconsin is the awesome course offering in the Norse area. They have two years of Danish, Swedish, and Norwegian. That is not too common. Without doing research, I bet University of Minnesota has them too.

also, alexandre check your pms :-)

My Order of Preference:

UVA

Berkeley

UNC-Chapel Hill

UCLA

William and Mary

UT-Austin

Michigan

University of Wisconsin

Georgia Tech

University of Illinois

Obviously my preference (slight Ohio bias)

Kent State

Ohio State

ASU

UT Austin

Cleveland State

Bowling Green

Wisconsin

UIUC

Toledo

SIU Carbondale

Iowa

UW Whitewater

SUNY Stonybrook

Akron

IUPUI

University of Michigan

my opinion (though i must point out that 1. i'm from ct and 2. very few people from my very competitive public hs even look at state schools other than uconn, let alone attend)

Berkeley
UVA

Michigan
UNC-CH
UCLA

Wisconsin
USC

Penn State
Maryland

Florida
Rutgers
Texas-Austin

Georgia Tech
SUNY-Binghamton
UConn
Colorado
Indiana
Delaware
Illinois

Washington
Arizona
UMinn-Twin Cities
Vermont
Tennessee-Knoxville
Iowa
Missouri

URI
UMass-Amherst
SUNY-Albany
New Hampshire
Maine

What's the point of doing this?

To show that the mid tier UCs always get shafted (as a result of being overshadowned by the top 2 or 3) in these topics :)

People tend to forget that Ga Tech and William & Mary are public. Silly question but where are the W&M grads??? I have never met one.

My Ranking:

UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA (by a long shot)

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA - BERKELEY

UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
UNIVERSITY OF CALOFORNIA - LOS ANGELES

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA
COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY

THE REST
