Your opinion !

Ok. So, this is my first time posting something on WUSTL. And I am dong so because I am confuse, i guess. Today I received yet another mail from WUSTL, this one talking about the Annika Rodriguez Scholarship. Now, i was shocked to discover that they offered full scholarships. I bet these are extremely hard to obtain. Nonetheless they send it to me. To make the story shorter, I have received lots of mail from WUSTL. And at a point I did consider the school; but since I thought they did not offer a Communication major i disregarded it a long time ago. Today, i search again(after recieving the mail about the full ride) and found out that indeed they have a Journalism /Communicatin major. This made me think. My dilemma is, Why have they always send me such much mail?Is this a sign that they are interested or do they do this with everyone? Does this means i have a good chance of getting a full ride(btw-that is the only way that i could attend WUSTL). And this is a problem because I do not have estellar stats. I come here and read the stats of other kids, and i say," Why in the world would they be interested?"

My only resoning is that I do/have take/n a pretty challenging cp/hn/ap courses. Which rank me 7 of 479 in a regular New Jersey High school. Another thing is that i am hispanic. Dominican, to be exact,[ doubt they have many] and came to the U.S about 5 years ago. My Highest Act is a 28 and my gpa is a 3.87 uw. i am well rounded. but i do not seem to fit the ginormous stats of the students here interested in WUSTL

So, i would like to ask your opinions on wether i should attempt to apply here. And maybe answer some of the questions i had, to why they send me such much mail- showing interest or just the usual?

Thanks in Advance!

WashU loves to send loads of mail to their students. College mail in general usually means that they want you to look into their school, not that you have a great shot and they want you. Of course if you have great stats, they'll obviously want you. Still, take the time to do research and if WashU seems like the place for you then apply.

I think you have a fairly good shot at getting into the school.
The Annika Scholarship is pretty competitive, but they also have a program called the John B Ervin scholar program that accepts more people and essentially does the same thing.
I think both of these can get you either full or partial tuition, but I'm not sure if they cover room and board.
Additionally, there are other scholarships you can apply to with the school as well.

Academic Scholarship & Fellowship Programs

But as nooob said, WashU does send a lot of mail to a lot of students. So I don't consider it a sign that you have a perfect chance. However, I think when they send scholarship info they are strongly urging you to apply for that scholarship (not everyone gets that sent to them...from what I've heard)

thanks to you both. 2legit when i received the scholarship application and brochure, that's when i began to reconsider. i think that i'll apply and see how things go for me. if i get a full ride it will be just awesome.

I wa sin a very similar situation myself when I applied to WashU, but I applied for the Ervin scholarship and got it. So it is quite possible. It never hurts to apply, because you never have any idea what the applicant pool will be like or what decisions they might make.
