Your Priorities for the year

What activities, goals, and priorities will split your time the most this year? Your job? Some sports and clubs? Homework? How will you split your time among all your priorities this year?

Homework/studying- I'll estimate on the heavy side and say an average of 3 hours.

volunteering I do- 4 hours per week. Not much, but i still included it

sports/clubs- I'm in a few clubs, no sports, not much time. at all. maybe an hour a month tops.

college applications- basically ever waking moment when I'm not doing osmething else

college visits/college etc.-I'm a senior. College stuff will dominate my life lol.

Too lazy to include the rest

School-- I must keep my grades up for the final push through senior year.

NIH internship-- Doing research with real scientists and state of the art equipment is also really important to me. Plus, not many kids my age get to do things like hold a 100 ml bottle of solution that's worth 1500 bucks.

Sports-- My school's swim team has been the county champs for 3 years in a row, and I've been a major player. We were also regional champions last year.

College Apps-- as celebrian said, "college stuff will dominate my life lol."

Social life-- I can't get enough of my friends/family.

These are the important things to me, other thing sthat aren't really important to me, I haven't included

school- if I can keep my grades up through this year (jr year), I'll probably end up in the top 3 or 4 people in my class, so doing well is one of my main priorities for the year.

work- 15 hours/week, so i can pay for gas/insurance and actually be able to get to everything else. :)

volunteering- 7 hours/week...i do two separate volunteer gigs on a weekly basis, and love them both.

clubs- member of two, president of one. i have no idea yet how much time the president thing is going to take up, hopefully not more than a few hours a week outside of meetings.

internship- big priority for me this year because it's in one of my main fields of interest (history).

independent history research project- national history day. this takes up a ton ton ton of time, but it's my absolute favorite EC. I love it.

friends- my friends are the best people ever, and my goal this year is not to get so busy i let them drift away from me.

SATs/college stuff- still need to take the SATI and one more SATII. ick. don't even really want to think about that!

School - I can't deny that it takes up the most time! I'll be a senior finishing my last year of full IB. That means I have IAs, Extended Essay, TOK (presentation + essay), 2 World Lit Papers, Chem Group 4 Project, Oral Exams, Historical Inquiry, etc. on TOP of my regular homework. So yeah, I'll be spending a lot of time on those!

Music - Music especially helps me chill out. Having choir and band four times a week before school (at 7:30AM) really wakes you up and keeps you sane. I also take private lessons, take music history/theory, and play in a fiddle group (which is a blast!). I also got into provincial honor band - which happens in october.

Sports - I'm going to be playing the fall season of field hockey (indoor) as well as the spring outdoor with school this year to keep me as in shape as field hockey can make you! Everyone needs some excersize.

Clubs - I'm the founding member of the Amnesty Club at my school, and this is going to be a big year for us. We already have some cool stuff planned (like LiveAid mini concerts at our school and presentations to all the freshman history classes). Also, I'm the most senior member of the school MUN team and am going to Montreal for SSUNS.

Friends, etc. - If you couldn't tell by now, most of my friend time happens in band, MUN, field hockey, class, etc. But yeah, outside of everything, I do see them. It's especially important for me to see my boyfriend (of almost 4 years) and my best friends, which luckily isn't hard because we all live quite close to each other.

University! - I want to have the majority of my apps done by/during christmas break. I'm applying RD to a couple US schools, but the deadline for canadian schools is usually around feb/march! I really want to focus on the major scholarship apps for here (Millennium, TD, school entrance ones, etc). With everything else going on though, worrying about university won't get me nearly as far as actually living in the moment. It is senior year, and you only get to do it once, so why worry? What happens will happen, you'll go to college and hopefully get on with your life, not being one of those people who focuses on everything that could have been instead of living in the moment you're in!

Oh, and one last thing.... GRAD! I am beyond excited to go shopping for a grad dress. :)

School- Keep my grades up, and do well on the PSAT, SAT, SAT II Lit, and SAT II World History...

Scholarships- Fill out as many as possible, and hopefully get a few scholarships this year..

Dance- Continue to improve in dance, learn how to do over a quadriple pirouette, russian foutes, overall have better technique..continue with the professional dance company..

Drama- continue in my (outside of the school) acting troupe and try out for some of the school's plays (hopefully it won't conflict with my troupe's plays)

clubs- be more active in the black history club, and actually raise funds for my community service organization . (I'm Head of Fundraising..I didn't do too well with cutting through the red tape of the administration to get permission to be able to let the organization do fundraisers)

social life- get a learner's permit and license, and try to attend more parties regardless of who may be there..make more friends and connections..

work- try to find someone who will hire a 15 year old..because I really need the money for personal use and it would also be nice to help my family out a little..

Football and schoolwork will dominate. And if I have time maybe a social life. But probably not.

School/homework = basically just try and do as much of my homework as possible, and aim for straight A's every quarter. Pay attention more in class instead of doodling all over my notebooks, that sort of thing.

EC's = continue my previous EC's (JSA, Amnesty Intl, Class Board, French Club, Young Democrats...) and try out for the mock trial team. Maybe join the academic quizshow thing. Will definitely join the Natl Art Honor Society. I'm not a sporty person...I detest being outdoors and running around...so no sports for me.

Art/photography = these two things mean the world to me, so I'm gonna keep working at them, spend as much time doing them...without sacrificing schoolwork, of course.

Music = since I quit the violin a year ago (before freshi year), I've vowed to myself to at least practice occassionally. I'll keep on trying to teach myself the piano. I'm really considering starting guitar, too.

Friends/social life = I've got an okay social life...I'm happy with it. I'd love to get to know some acquaintances better, though.

College stuff/PSAT's = study for the PSAT's, but not TOO hard, since it's not counting towards Natl Merit. Get to know the guidance counselor better...I have not spoken a word to her as of yet! Overall, I'm just going to do things that interest me, and hope that it will show through in my college apps. XD

school- i'm gonna try not to slack like i did freshman year and i'll keep up my grades (maybe get straight As, who knows). and i'll try to get along with all of my teachers this year because there's always been at least one or two who i never saw eye to eye with and it caused problems.

work- i'm getting a job after marching band is over, but i'll probably only work weekends so i can keep up with school and ECs and whatnot.

volunteering- definitely need to volunteer more than i did last year which was pretty much never. so far, i think i've only got 12 or so hours.

clubs- because more involved in drama this year and i also plan on joining newspaper or yearbook. also, i want to run for vice president of german club and attend all of the meetings this year (i missed a lot last year)

friends- my friends are awesome. i think i'm pretty much covered there. oh, but i want to get to know the freshmen in band beause right now, they're extremely quiet and antisocial.

SATs/college stuff- uhmm i'm taking the PSAT in October, of course. then I could probably take the SATI or an SATII in june if i really wanted to. and i want to get a high score on the AP Euro exam.

Staying healthy (remember to take meds so I can go to school)

School (homework, college applications, raising SAT scores)

My horse

A job

My boyfriend/friends.

Volunteerings

school- ehh not worrying too much about it. i heard that the ap classes that i m taking arent so bad.

work- 15 hours/week i am a paper boy

volunteering- the usual with my environmental club

clubs- not too bad

internship- @ a small business

social life- I finally get to drive this year so i will definitely be more social.

SATs/college stuff- DONE!

Homework - Junior year. 5 AP's. Enough said. [I do this on weeknights and during the weekend.]

Studying for Standardized Tests - The words PSAT and SAT strike fear in my poor little bad-test taker heart. [Mostly during the weekend.]

EC's - I piled on WAY too much this year. Theater, student government, assorted political groups, newspaper, volunteer work. Not smart, in retrospect, but I love ALL my activities to death. [Weekday mornings and afternoons.]

Myself - I have a weird little plan for self-improvement. I should read more, and I really would like to lose weight/exercise some more. I would try to give up coffee, but (hah) see above. [Oh, please. I know this going out the window.]

Assorted scholarships - Nat'l History Day, maybe Ayn Rand, maybe some other stuff. Plus I would like to look into applying for TASP. [Weekends?]

Work - I work at a restaurant on weekends. [Weekend mornings and afternoons]

Social Life - Most of my friends are graduating at the end of the year, so I would like to find some people who I can hang out with come graduation. A date for prom would be super-nice too. [Thankfully I hang out with these people during lunch or in school or we all hang out at a coffee shop doing homework together, weekend nights, Friday afternoon]

Procrastination Time - Cough. Like right now.

My main priority is becoming a solid B student and the nicest and most well-liked person I can be.

am i the only one who just wants to have fun and enjoy it first?
i mean, there are important things... grades, ECs, whatever. but senior year wont be worth it for me unless i party it up!

Amen, Moni. My main academic concern is getting into college (or at least finishing my applications), and after that, I intend to relish the last year I have with my high school friends. I mean, I'll work hard for my classes, but more because I'm finally taking primarily subjects that interest me so I'm more motivated to work than when I was taking, say, calculus. My only real goal is to have fun.

Hey College Here You Come, are you planning on swimming in college? I swim for my high school and just finished my rec season this weekend.

Homework - hasn't taken as much time in the past - especially when I get to BS it. But literally everyone at my school as been telling me APLA is tons of work, though easily graded. Speaking of, I have some essays due in a few hours...

Activities - Yes! I love the smell of leadership! I <3 DEBATE! And I was just a founding member of the Environmental Club! And Amnesty! Ah, who can forget MUN?! I might do Model Congress with a couple friends - just for the hell of it.

Volunteering - I tutor with a student run organization, 4-6 hours/week, which I get to partially manage this year.

SAT/SAT II/AP - SAT until January... I don't know how much I'll prep though. I just want to raise my CR 50+ points and I'll be good, AP's until May - including one or two self studies, then SAT II's carry on in June

Social life - Hehe, my best friend and I are going to study for all our AP's and SAT II's and SAT's together. I'm so excited. Plus, we're taking almost all the same classes with almost all the same teachers. We work so well together. We just tested out of Precalculus together, too! We studied while dipping tortilla chips in hotass salsa while her cats kept wandering in. Ah, the memories... So basically social life = academics. Hah, sad, but true. Hey, it works for me.

Plus, I get the best teachers ever - which is SUCH a relief. That includes two of my freshman teachers - who absolutely loved me, and I loved them.

I am so SOUPED for Junior year! Who's with me?!

(Ah, the buzz of literature analysis at 4:40 AM)

School - Be the BEST in everything

Friends - busy year.. have to try to keep in touch with friends and try to keep going to parties so i don't lose my position haha

SAT - Get 2200+

Homework- AHHH!!! So much. Getting it all done and not procrastinating will be big.

ACT- I hope I can get the 30 this time around

Clubs- Stay organized in editorial positions.

Independent- Pre-production is my best friend.

College- apps... essays... lotz of supplements ... ah!

Friends- do stuff outside of starbucks and naples. The movies were a lot of fun last year. also ... be nice to the freshman

My no. 1 priority is to not go insane. W/ college apps, ECs, and school work, I'm not sure if I'll do OK. I want to keep my grades up, W/ all the APs.

And I don't want to forget my friends!!!!!! =)
