The admissions office has nothing to do with my posts here.

“I’m tired of fighting the battle of proving that Williams is not as great as all the admissions people here make it out to be.
Just please, take everything that Ephtastic says about Williams (especially socially and on diversity) with a massive (trucksized) grain of salt.”

I’m finding that statement a little hard to square with what I said:

"9. And how is diversity at the school?

The statistics are public… I’m not really sure what you are asking, so I’d like clarification before answering."

I also have no idea what your contentions are. If you want to have that discussion, that’s fine, but thus, the person making statements without basis in this thread is you. There are tight social groups at Williams, but I’ve never heard of any student group that is exclusive on social grounds.

How many opportunities do students get to go for walks round the area and stuff (I hear it’s quite beautiful?) Is it safe?

The Outing Club runs PE classes that include hiking the various trails once a week, and the director has a sunrise hike to the top of Pine Cobble every Friday morning. Mountain Day is the other organized “let’s go into the woods” day, timed to take advantage of the beautiful fall. If you take Botany, the labs will involve a lot of exploration as you hunt various species.

But you don’t need an “opportunity” to go hiking. I’ve had a great time with entrymates on the nearby ridges, and you can also walk up Stone Hill if you’re near the Clark. Some people also bike around with friends during the nice weather.

Is it safe?

Yes. I’ve never felt threatened anywhere at any time on campus, and Security has lots of call-boxes. The only incident I can remember of any threat was a stranger trying to pick up someone in a parking lot, and that made front page news in the paper. Again, come to previews and walk around at 4 in the morning to make your own judgment.

The campus is the “area” and it is quite beautiful in all seasons. Kids take walks, climb mountains, go for runs and bike rides, participate in snow sports – generally take advantage of their surroundings. Even if you’re just sitting on the grass in the middle of campus the mountains are always a presence. The physical environment is very much part of Williams’ character.

Williamstown is one of the safest places in the country. This may not be top priority in choosing a college but it’s one less thing to worry about, especially for kids who like to work in studios, labs or libraries late at night. Walking home on starry winter nights is one of my son’s best memories of Williams.

What’s the percentage of acceptance rates for Williams students who apply to med-school? Thanks!

90%+ for med school, 99%+ for business/law/science phd’s
taken from their website

Chem/Bio majors get to do real research here. Go look at some labs during Previews if you’re interested.

can you do Bio research at Williams if you’re not a Bio major, but a premed and interested?

What’s the acceptance rate for Williams grads for grad school?

Thanks!

Chandler - ask the Bio prof who researches things you are most interested in.

Lalala - really high, but you really shouldn’t pay attention to that stat. The person who will determine your acceptance to grad school is YOU. Judging a college by what most of its students do isn’t alwasy helpful at a school like Williams, where so many people are interested in so many things.
