Hello everybody, its mid-Sept. and I'm looking into my college essay now. I'm considering:
Tufts University, Penn State, SUNY Binghamton, UMass, BostonU, (maybe) Boston College, University of Maryland, and maybe one Ivy League (You never know, ivies like diversity in there applicants.)

Well, I don't exactly have an essay topic. I haven't overcome any adversities or anything of that nature. I don't truly know how much my family makes, but my mom does have a Mercedes Benz, and my dad a BMW 750-LI, so it would be safe to say were well-off (I hope :D.)

What can I write about?

What I have been considering:

-My parental guidance over my adolescent years.

-My personal family issues. (how the economy effected us - dad's job, although seemingly subtle, still had a profound affect on our family)

-Brotherly fued, lol

^^^ IDK how the colleges I'm considering, would respond to these topics.
Are these the normal essays people submit?

If not, what do colleges want me to write about?

BTW, I am Nigerian-American (AA), so could I write about my adolescent years as an african?

** My mom wants me to write about my trip to Japan, when I was 14 years old. I did get my first kiss there, and it was a really cool trip, I just don't feel I was discplined enough to have enjoyed it. I feel I would've been more enriched by the experience if I had taken the trip Junior Year, rather than Freshman. Most of the trip I was focusing on the friends (and GIRLS xD), rather than retaining knowledge, etc. Although for a brief period after the trip I was pretty fluent in a diminutive portion of Japanese colloquial speech (didn't last long, I have long forgotten how to say stuff in Japanese). I do remember vividly the moutain ranges we climbed, the people, ALL the rice LOL, but idk.

P.S. Should I write seperate essays for different colleges, or just send one to all.

!!!!!!!!!(Penn State Question)!!!!!!!!!!!! - Ignore if never been accepted Penn State University Park
-------------------> What are they looking for in that tiny-tiny "Personal Statement" portion?
