YOUR SAFETY is probably MY REACH. =/

Title says it all; I feel inferior and rejected on here with my "oh so horrendous" 3.4 GPA and top 50% rank. Wanna give me some input here?

Firstly.. Stats:

White Male from Southern California (Born in Illinois, moved in 2002)
Attend pretty good public school
Not First Generation
GPA (Unweighted): 3.45
RANK: 212/501
ACT: 29 (29 E, 32 M, 28 R, 30 S)
ACT WRITING: 10
SAT: 1850
Major: Media/Film or related

Grade Trend: Freshman 3.4ish, Sophomore 3.8ish, junior 2.9ish

Honors/AP Classes: Algebra 1 HONORS, American History HONORS, Physical Science HONORS, English 9 HONORS, English 10 HONORS, AP Biology, AP US History, AP Psychology, Geometry HONORS, AP English Comp., AP Chemistry, AP European History, AP Environmental Science, HONORS Spanish III, AP Spanish Lang, AP Statistics, HONORS Physics

Senior Year Dual Enrollment (local cc) Classes: English 1201 (College Writing I), Principles of Macroeconomics, General Psychology, Healthy Living (HS grad requirement) Political Science 112 (Intro), Film and Graphics A

AP Scores: AP Biology (3), APUSH (3), AP Psychology (4), AP English Lang (4), AP Chemistry (1 (atleast I tried) )

^^ In regards to my poor AP Chem Exam score, my semester grades for AP Chemistry were B/A-. This does not indicate grade inflation; I was sick with the flu and throwing up at school 15 minutes before the exam. I pretty much felt like crap the whole time and twice almost got up and left.

Extra Curricular Activities:

Part Time Job @ Seattle’s Best Coffee; August 2008-Present; Typical 25 hours a week during school, and up to 40 during the summer

Part Time Job @ Target; March 2008-July 2008 (Left because they wouldn’t approve my availability changes and scheduled me during school)

2 Month Internship at Arclight Productions in LA; Focused on Entertainment Marketing and became somewhat familiar with basic image alteration software; 20 hours per week

Varsity Track & Field; 10th-12th Grade; 4x400 m. relay/200 m. dash; will likely NOT letter

Band; 9th-12th; First Chair Percussionist

Marching Band; 11th-12th; Drumline; 4 hours per week; co-section leader senior year

School Technical Support Specialist (Our morning announcements are broadcasted over the TV and I double up on camera/audio.)

Started & am President of school’s Video Club; 10th-12th Grade; 10-15 hours per week; produce a full length video each school year; one of our videos (I helped write the script) was featured in the community at a volunteer banquet

Fall Musical; 10th Grade; 20 hours per week; had role of Will Parker in “Oklahoma”; hosted 3 cast events at my house; unfortunately can no longer participate due to my job
- considering being a part of the technical crew for this year, most likely with lighting or audio; assuming I can find time when I'm not at work and my course rigor allows time for it.

Speech Team; 8th-12th Grade (started early); Co-President; Received an award for being “most animated”; 4-5 hours a week
- Am getting a recommendation from this coach (who was also my AP English teacher)

School Camera Specialist (as part of Video Club); I’m in charge of video taping at important school events such as pep rallies and varsity football games; receive volunteer hours for this

Universities I plan to send applications to: (in no particular order)

University of Southern California
UC-Riverside
Arizona State University
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (triple legacy, first choice)
University of Wisconsin-Madison
Emerson College
Cal Poly-SLO
University of Michigan-Ann Arbor
Indiana University-Bloomington

Possibly:
Stanford University (this would be really epic, but am I out of the game?)
UCLA/UCB

Anyways.. If I could be told where I stand for these schools, that'd be awesome.

-Cody

I think that you stand a good chance at your top choice. I think you should apply to the schools that you are really passionate about on your list. Your stats are pretty good however their not exceptional, but then again who really is lol! I hope this helped!

Yes, you would not be in the game at Stanford, UCLA or UCB. USC is also highly unlikely.

Riverside and Arizona look to be safeties, so if you can afford those, your list is fine.

No to Stanford and Berkeley.
I’d say UCLA and USC are reaches, but not ridiculous

Could someone do the whole list? That’d be rad.

Or any other input works too.

Your SAT and ACT scores are great. You did really well.
It’s your grade trend that worries me. It dipped your junior year. Why?
I’d say that any Cal State University would be no problem, so don’t count them out.
Riverside and ASU shouldn’t be difficult. UI, Michigan, and UW should be good too, but the rest would be reaching. I wouldn’t be surprised if you got in to all of them though.
Your resume is better than a vast majority of college applicants.

USC - 50% chance
riverside - youre in
cal poly - 50% chance
ucla - nope
ucb - nope
standord - nope

I find it hard to believe that with those stats you’re 212th/500. i’d guess you were at least in the top 100

Youre in at Arizona State University.

I’m from Arizona, and let me tell you, it is called “barbie and ken’s” school for a reason. The students are georgeous there! It’s kind of a party school though : / Not sure how you feel about that…

I got accepted to IU-B.

But anyways… bumpp

does your school publish rank? i’m just wondering because mine doesn’t. even if so, i think you have a great shot at illinois! good luck!

Rejected from Wisconsin today. Kind of mad about that.

Deos that mean Michigan is basically not going to happen?
