Your scores are stressing me out!

How do you guys score 800 on Maths and CR section? Some of you scored so high and still u think that was not good! I feel like a real dumdum now. I want to score 1300 and I'll be more than happy if i can score that. I scored 1000 this time. Plz tell me how long did u guys study and what books did u read that gave you such high scores. I made 5 in A.P Biology and 700 in some subject tests. But SAt reasoning is stressing me out. Please help.I am a senior and I'll retake in December. Plz help!!!!!!!!!!!!

don't stress out, everyone here is not the normal high school students. for CR just read a lot, study vocab, and practice i guess. For math read the questions real carefully (even underline key words if you have to), they have a lot of traps in the questions.
good luck.

oi join the club. this site stresses me beyond belief yet i keep clicking...

Your goal would best be to maximize what talent you have and keep your stress to a minimum. Be who you are focus on your positive accomplishments. Not all top students get the fat letter. A class is make up of many disparate types of students....be who you are.

Read Carolyn's post about the Xiggi method of studying for the SAT--it's the best way to improve.

Good luck--focused study rather than stressing and you'll get better results.

yup i feel with you. It really ****es me off when someone goes

"800 math
800 CR
740 W
omg the writing was a joke!!! the math and CR was acceptable."

Yeah acceptable b/c you couldve done much better right? Lets aim for a 900 next time, k?

I got an 800 math, and 640 CR.

All of my friends who got 800 math didnt study for a second. With math, its generally a you either can or you cant, type of deal.

Also, when people say **** like "DUDE **** IT WAS MY THIRD TIME, I EXPECTED HIGHER THAN THIS ****"
and they had an 800, 770, and 760 (true story, look in the thread)... I mean what the hell????

lol m4gici4n I saw the kid who posted that, and I was just like "wow..."

he seriously did say something like "math and CR are sufficient...writing sucks"...I mean *** is the problem with some people

This is not a rant because I have bad scores, I have a 2300. I just think to call an 800 'sufficient' and a 740 horrible is completely ridiculous

maybe they'r being modest....or not.......

Moose, I went from 640 to 770 on the math section by studying. I personally think the SAT math is, for some people, more a matter of practice than a matter of "you can or you can't."

sourysweet I am an example of a person who did not score over 500 for each section. The total score I got this time is 1380. The first time I got was a 1420. So don't feel bad.

God, don't even sweat it. This board can be absolutely ridiculous. As soon as I am accepted to my college I'm never coming here again. It's a great resource, a wonderful motivator, a haven in rough times and truly a gigantic help in this college search.

But coming here makes me feel woefully inadequate and like a plastic score-whore. I hate comparing scores like this. This morning I checked my scores and found out that I got a 690 in math (60 pt improvement) which I know isn't too great by a lot of standards, but I expect the hardcore CC'ers to jump all over me now. (omg so sorry, work harder and you can do better!)
I was pretty pleased, because I suck badly at math and at least I broke 650. So later in the day some guy actually came up to me and tried to console me for getting such a disappointing math score. ***?

I'm ranked 3rd in my class and this board makes me feel truly substandard. :(
Don't feel badly. hugs

I'll post my scores if you want, but I'll save you a little bit of stress.

So yeah, I had decent scores the first time I took it, but I was actually quite shocked at what I saw this morning. I post my scores here because I'm actually quite modest in real life and I haven't shared them with anybody except my parents, sister, and guidance counselor.

Study hints? There are a lot of good books... and a lot of bad ones. The best advice I can give you is to get ACTUAL SAT tests and take them. They can only ask the same math question in so many different ways, and you eventually get the hang of "What does this word mean in this context?"

OK, OK, it's impossible to do right now -- but don't stress out on test day. Yeah, it's easy for me to say it over the internet, but I had a 130pt improvement on my second sitting, but I did considerably less preparation and much less fretting about it beforehand.

I used Barrons 2400 book, but it wasn't really that great. The best SAT preparation, actually, came from my AP Journalism class. If you don't know complex English grammatical structures, like appositives, prepositional phrases, relative clauses, etc... LEARN THEM. PRACTICE THEM. They show up more than you would think.

Footloop, I don't know if you were asking me a question. But if you were, yes out of 2400.

Improvement:
PSAT 156 -----> SAT 2300

DON'T WORRY, you can always improve, just look @ my score improvement (+740 points!!!). I used to go around these boards intimidated by the scores of other people, but that doesn't help your score at all. Instead of roaming these forums comparing your score to theirs, you should take the time to crack open that blue book and do some practice. So, don't give up hope! As long as you do your personal best, everything should be fine. :)

Thank you all. It was really encouraging.
This site is not that bad though. It helped me a lot to get 5 in A.P biology.I was new in USA at that time and didn't know anything what was going on around me.I scored 510 on CR and 490 on Maths . I didn't pay much attention to writing since the colleges I want to go deosn't pay much attention to it. I scored 410 on writing.
Anyways, u guys have boosted me up.I am feeling less stressed now.Thank you all so much!

I love these boards. They just throw the best people around the US right in your face and you realize your inadequacies immediately. It's a glaring wake-up call, telling you your competition and exactly where you stand.

Anyhow, if you're from New Jersey, I'd point you in the way of an absolutely lovely couple who teaches SAT classes. After spending my last summer in class with them, my SAT score jumped from 2100 to 2360.

Don't feel to bad my cousin made a 1050 out of 2400 when I found that out I bust out laughing I shouldn't have done that but it was funny. She only made about 300 pts on each section. I made a 1750 which is really laughable on these boards but the first time I made a 1510 so that is a significant improvement. I think I should have made about 100 pts. higher on the cr but maybe next time if I decide to take the Dec. test in the next few days.

I was going to apply to JHU but my SAT is kinda substandard and my mom isn't helping in the matter so my list might go down to two schools both in state.
