We’d love to get input from current or former students and parents about their experiences with UNC Chapel Hill.
What have you loved about it? What are the drawbacks? How are the professors, easily accessible, helpful? She is planning to major in Chemistry…any input from someone in that major would be helpful. What advice would you give to a student trying to decide if UNC is for them?
Thanks so much! Any and all information would be appreciated!
you may have to be aggressive getting classes you want/need. Like crashing a class for a few weeks before officially having enough people leave to get into it. I think large classes and maybe not always getting ones you want are the drawbacks. But this will teach kids assertiveness and independence.
My son is a senior, and categorically says that the last four years have been the best years of his life. He has thrived there, and so can your child, if she picks Carolina. It can be a bit daunting at first, just because of how big a school it is, but the student gets used to it as time goes on. Carolina is the total package of academics and social life. People are generally very friendly, and you make friends by engaging; and there are so many opportunities for that.
The food might not be the best, but then there are lots of options. Family orientation is extremely educative; they talk to you and your child about everything! The school wants your student to be safe above all things, so there is a lot of talk about drinking, locking your room, blue lights etc. We were given private cell numbers of school officials in case we needed to reach them.
My son is graduating from Kenan Flagler Business School with an outstanding education, and a great job.
My daughter is a freshman and absolutely loves every aspect. She enjoys her classes, has made wonderful friends, and enjoys the general spirit of both the university and Chapel Hill. She has had some difficulties getting the exact classes she wanted but the ones she has taken instead have been good and meet the requirements for her major and minors.
