You're AWESOME! Is everyone else? (CCers and the GP)

From what I remember of the chances sub forum many CCers had top ECs, top scores, and top academic records. While none of you have crystal balls, does anyone have any idea of what percent of the IVIES (I'm using the ivies because they are a convenient group of competitive schools) applicant pools are the highly competitive? Or even better, does anyone know what percent of the IVY applicant pools are just IVY hopefuls and not genuinely interested are competitive?

Thanks.

The vast majority of applicants to the Ivies are outstanding students who would have the ability to succeed at Ivies if there were space for them to be accepted. Harvard's dean of admissions was quoted this year as saying that 90% of Harvard's applicants qualify for admission to Harvard.

But does that statement really carry anyweight? Harvard wants to put itself at the top, and one way to maintain a place at the top is to advertise the top kids that the school has to DENY.

If you want to see what admissions is like at any top school, just check the college's boards here on CC and see the stats of those who applied last year. There are threads showing the stats of people who applied. There also are threads showing results.

I've interviewed for Harvard for more than 15 years, and virtually everyone whom I've interviewed had the stats indicating that they would be able to succeed at Harvard -- if they were admitted. The person with the lowest stats whom I interviewed, a rare student whom I gave a low rating to in terms of academics, had low stats because of going to a horrible inner city school. That student graduated from a second tier college, and now is in grad school at a top 30 university while she directs a small museum. She was a bright, talented young woman who didn't academically qualify for Harvard when she applied because of a lack of a decent education, not because of a lack of intelligence.
