Youth Foundation - Hadden Scholarship 2016

Has anyone heard anything about the Hadden Scholarship this year?
I have been checking religiously every day to find out when it opens and all it says is January 2016. But it does say the deadline is February 29, 2016.
There is no email or phone number to contact anyone.
Any help with this would be great! :-?

Website has been updated. Application available to download and application period is January 25 to February 29.

It mentions 3.5+GPA, is that a weighted GPA?

Unweighted.

Done my application. Just have to hand write the essay :-q

How many words do the essay need to be?

I don’t know. It says briefly discuss but then gives a bunch of things to discuss. Mine ended up being two pages typed. I figured that would suffice.@neffie

Gonna hand write and mail it off tomorrow.

Ok… Thanks! @Fuzerabit

Does anyone know when we will hear back from this scholarship? I received an email about 2 weeks ago that said I was being considered for a spot, but I have heard nothing else yet.

I haven’t heard back at all.
It may be June according to other threads.

Yeah, I haven’t heard a word. You didn’t receive an email either, did you Fuzerabit?

@Fuzerabit Yeah after reading over some of the past threads for the Hadden Scholarship, it seems like we will know by the about the 2nd or 3rd week of June if we won or not.

The email that I received had about 30 other email addresses in it so I’m thinking we might be the semi-finalists possibly? I’m very anxious to hear back from the scholarship so hopefully they send out results soon!

@WhySoStressful
No I haven’t heard anything or received my self addressed envelope back.

@michaelo789
Oh wow. Yeah so it sounds like they have narrowed it down. Maybe I will get a letter stating I wasn’t chosen in the next week or so :frowning:

I personally never heard back from HADDEN last year.

Notified this week; I’m a recipient!

@AtticusFinchh Congratulations! That is awesome! :slight_smile: What day did you find out that you won?

I guess I did not move onto the finalist stage since I have still heard nothing since May…

We opted out of applying for this one, because as I recall they requested something like 3 years of back taxes just to to do the initial application, It truly disturbs me that an application with this level of time commitment to apply doesn’t even garner the respect of a response in a self addressed envelope from the Hadden people. I have seen a trend in the scholarships this year of this type of behavior, and it is unacceptable. Kids spend hours preparing these applications, to receive not even a postcard or form letter notification. That is terrible.

By comparison, the very classy Gates Foundation received 57,000 applications last year, and they notified every person - recipient or non-recipient. While my mentee was one of the winners, I know others who did not win but were notified within days of the winners, not left to wonder. That is a class organization who clearly respects the student applicants, Hadden could learn a thing or too, as could many of the others.

“Kids spend hours preparing these applications, to receive not even a postcard or form letter notification. That is terrible.”

I don’t understand your point. The same thing happens very often in job hunting. I’m not saying that’s right, either, but it’s reality. I think this attitude that all applicants deserve recognition of some form is an offshoot of special snowflake syndrome. Just my 2 cents.

I think it is nice of the scholarship organizations that do respond to all of the applicants, regardless of whether they won or not, but I do not believe it is necessary. Even though we spend hours on putting together applications, there will never be a time in our lives where we can attain thousands of dollars by simply filling out an application. For that reason, I would never criticize an organization that is giving away money to help further educate our future generation! However, everyone is entitled to their own opinion :v:

Also, I found out this morning that I was selected as a Hadden Scholar!
