This discussion is for the Yale Summer Program in Astrophysics (YSPA) 2017 for people to talk about the program, connect with other applicants and, when the time comes, celebrate their acceptance to the program.
Why is this thread so dead? I’m applying this year. Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is for international students?
Hey all, I’m an international student applying for YSPA. How can I booat my chances even if I don’t have any science related ECAs?
This is indeed so dead. I’m thinking of applying to this, but not sure yet
I don’t have any advice for international applications, @florencewelch666 and @OnAHyperbola, since I’m applying from the United States. There’s no set application rate since it’s not explicitly known how many people applied last year. I think ~200 did and 28 were accepted. That makes the rate around 14%. If you don’t have any science related ECAs I would suggest, if you choose to do so on the application, talking about what activities you have done and the circumstances surrounding why you don’t have any science related ECAs.
Just curious, do you know of any policies regarding applicants that have not taken physics yet?
Hey, I wanted to know whether the YSPA is like on level terms with like SSP and HSSRP etc.
I’m an international applicant btw.
Oh and do any of you happen to know which universities the 2016 YSPA participants have been accepted into?
i think yspa is just a little less prestigious than ssp because it’s newer, but otherwise, a great (and selective) program
It says on the website that the YSPA and the SSP are partners. Does that mean that they collaborate/exchange data and observations?
@cconfusedd There is no information on what colleges YSPA participants have been accepted to because the inaugural participants are seniors this year.
I’m applying to both YSPA and SSP and the material (research and courses) are practically the same, but SSP is more prestigious as @stopthistrain said because it has been operating longer.
i doubt they exchange materials, but they are both similar, as frazzle said above.
The application deadline is Sunday! I thought it was still a ways away but it’s coming right up!
Just submitted my application. I didn’t get a confirmation email yet… hopefully I’ll get one soon. Good luck to everyone applying!
Hey guys,
I also submitted an application to YSPA, it says on their FAQ page that your application is complete when you have received a confirmation email of your application and of your two recommendations. One of my teachers accidentally put in a wrong email address for me to get a confirmation email, so I never received one, but my teacher received a confirmation email of her recommendation. Is it necessary for me to also get an email? Or is just my teacher getting one sufficient enough? I contacted Yale about it two days ago through email but they haven’t replied yet:(. Also, is the confirmation email of your application just the confirmation of the student application form you submitted online, or are they two separate things?
Sorry for the long post!
Thanks in advance.
@savoir12 The website addresses this by saying, “If you do not see the E-mail in your spam filter, it is possible that you or your recommenders did not submit an accurate E-mail address in the form.” They don’t say anything more on this or what to do in this case so it’s probably nothing. I wouldn’t worry.
Are recommendations, essays and grades weighed equally?
One of my teachers submitted and I got a confirmation e-mail. My other teacher says he submitted it but I haven’t got a confirmation e-mail. He put in the correct e-mail and date of birth and all… Hope YSPA sorts it out.
Thanks @OnAHyperbola Are you supposed to receive a confirmation email saying that your application is complete? Or do you just receive confirmations of your online student application and recommendations?
I didn’t get a completion confirmation. Still haven’t got a recommendation confirmation for the other teacher, though he claims he did everything correctly.
