I am very lost on what I want to major in but I do know that these two are the only majors that really interest me right now. (Maybe mass communications since it's somewhat similar to journalism). I love animals and I wouldn't mind writing for newspapers or magazines. Can I somehow combine the two? Maybe major in both? Or perhaps minor in one and major in the other? What do you think? I originally wanted to minor in music so I was thinking I would just pick one of these as my major, but now I can't decide!

Double majoring in the two is nothing to take for granted.

I wouldn’t necessarily say a love of animals is enough to major in Zoology. Zoology is just a division of Biology with your upper level courses related to the animal kingdom. That means for your first two or three years you’ll be taking biology, chemistry, and physics classes. Imagine the time studying for those combined with the time it takes to be a journalism major, constantly having papers to write.

I would recommend you major in Journalism and take some animal-related classes on the side, maybe a minor in Animal Science if your school offers it.

Thanks NextElement. I guess what I’m trying to say is I wouldn’t mind working with animals and study them as a living. I love all animals and I could see myself being surrounded by them 24/7. I guess I also wanted two majors so that I can have a backup plan.

Just a note - when you’re talking zoology and animals, many of those animals are flatworms and nematodes and sponges and insects. Don’t be tempted by cuddly dogs and kittens - familiar animals are a VERY small part of the metazoa, and you will study very little along those lines.

Yes, I understand that mckyle9423. But I don’t think zoology is an option any longer because I would have a very tough time with physics and chemistry. Science is not my strongest subject.
