Can anyone tell me , is it worth it for my S to get SAT instruction via Zoom or should I find a one on one in person tutor. Personally I don’t think my S will get the most out of it looking at a computer screen.
I had the same concerns when DD’s one-to-one tutor went from in-person to zoom in March. It actually worked out fine, though. DD still got everything she needed out of the sessions.
Personally, all else being equal, I would favor hiring someone local, though, as it would give you the option to go F2F if online didn’t work out. There is no shortage of qualified tutors out there who would be happy to work with you online if you can’t find a satisfactory candidate locally, though.
My son took a SAT prep class but found that what helped him the most was taking practice test after practice test. I think Zoom would work fine as long as your son practices lots.
One of ours did a lot of virtual tutoring for SAT & certain APs /Subject tests this spring. She said it worked fine for almost all the students who were even mildly motivated and that it wasn’t that different from doing it quietly in a corner of the library or at Starbucks/equivalent.
Agree with @MaineLonghorn that sitting full practice tests is a really useful approach- it builds the test-taking muscles for a start! - and using the tutoring to address specific issues / weak spots that show up in the results.
He has taken a couple of tests, but I have not seen any improvement yet.
