[] State or Country: Virginia
[] School Type: Private

[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: SAT, ECs, Interview. Grades probably the biggest weakness.
[li] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: Admissions officer said if I had a 4.0 I would have been a lock based on the two kids they got into Harvard two years ago.[/li][/ul]Other Factors: School really underinflates GPA. I am in 8-15 range in a ridiculously smart senior class. Kids got in early to Yale, Dartmouth, Stanford, Colombia, JHU, UVA, William and Mary, UVA, Williams, etc

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: All Harvard applicants from my school were deferred. Congratulations to all who were accepted; for those who were deferred or rejected, it sucks but let's just live with it and get on with our lives. We'll all get into somewhere nice RD.

To get to Harvard, do y'all have to get to the best high schools from where you live? Or does Harvard just judge ur perfomance in the school (i mean just academic-wise here, nvm EC's,etc)?

Harvard most definitely accepts students from less-than-stellar schools. Some might argue that it's easier to get in from a "crappy" school, since easier academics mean more time for ECs and such. However, students at better schools have the advantage of an established reputation + quality guidance counselors. Regardless of which is easier, it's definitely possible to get into Harvard from the best school in the country + the worst.

i personally think my school is "stellar" but our GC sucks
