PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

@adviceneeded7: you received bad advice, because you had no chance of getting into Smeal “pre admit” with these stats. Smeal is the hardest college to get into straight out of HS, and there’s not even any advantage to that. You should have been told to apply DUS. I’m very sorry.
To gauge your chances…
Are you enrolled in Calculus? Have you reached level 3 or 4 in a foreign language? Do you have 4 years of English at AP/honors level? I may be wrong since you didn’t write your # of Honors/AP’s, but unless your HS weighs AP’s as +.1, it’s likely you took fewer than 10 AP+Honors classes, and your SAT score while good can’t overcome that.

Now, you have several choices:

1° Give up Altoona/Smeal, and ask to be reconsidered for DUS Summer. You’ve already heard your odds are low with that route. But if you’re really interested in Psu UP, that’s an option. It means you ought to have other affordable acceptances already and are willing to go elsewhere since odds are, it won’t work.
2° Give up Altoona/Smeal and give up Smeal entirely, and ask to be reconsidered for the College of Liberal Arts Economics BA or BS (one has more math than the other so it depends how you’re doing in Calc AB right now, or if you’re in Precalculus); you can add a Smeal Business minor. You can try and be a Paterno Fellow Aspirant, taking Honors Economics as well as Honors English/Communication with Schreyer students. If you achieve high grades, you would graduate with a BA/BS in Economics as well as potentially a degree from Schreyer and the Paterno Fellow title. If you didn’t get high grades in those 4 freshman classes you’d still have benefited from small, interactive classes with very strong peers. You CANNOT apply to Smeal from that option. However, the odds are better than with the first option. You could even stack odds in your favor by applying Summer + BA/BS Economics CLA.
3° Stick with the safer way into Smeal and stay with Altoona’s 2+2.
