1/2 Native American applying to colleges

Hello everyone. I’m currently a junior in high school, and I’m beginning to think about the dreaded college/scholarship application process next fall. I don’t have any questions about SAT/ACT/GPA, so I apologize if I’m posting this in the wrong forum here.

Anyways, I’m half Native American (with official tribal enrollment) and half Asian. Obviously, identifying as solely Native American on college applications would put me at a much bigger advantage admissions-wise. However, I am a bit worried that college adcoms will have any reason to doubt my Native American heritage. This fear may seem a bit irrational, but I do have a rather atypical last name for Native Americans, and I have previously identified as biracial on a few school-related stuff, like AP Exams (I think I’m also biracial on my school’s database). I do realize that there are plenty of 1/32 or 1/16 Native Americans who get away with checking the Native American box on college apps, so I’m not sure whether colleges even look for proof of tribal affiliation during the decisions process.

I know there aren’t many Native Americans on CC, but does anyone here have any information/advice/experience regarding my scenario? Thanks

When you fill out the Common App and check Native American it asks you for your tribal enrollment number. Provide that and you will be fine.

The school stuff has nothing to do with what goes the college. You can check whatever you want.
