1. Chance me for Yale-NUS and 2. should i go?

Hi all, finfernape here here is a bit about my background:

i was born and raised in California as an American-Born Chinese (ABC) and i’m from a specialized high school in the suburbs where i got awards for doing the best in my college business classes, specifically accounting, finance and marketing… Here’s a bit about my background:

GPA: 3.9/4/0
Extracurriculars:

  • Varsity Soccer
  • Varsity Basketball
  • Varsity Lacrosse
  • Intel Research
    took 8 AP Classes:
  • AP Chem
  • AP Government
  • AP Chinese
  • AP Economics
  • AP Calculus AB
  • AP US History
  • AP English Language
  • AP English Literature

for purposes of anonymity i go to a city school/a prestigious honors program that has <10% acceptance rate but am a little fazed out that although they have poli sci classes they lack a Global Affairs major at my school, and my school is very business-oriented which is why i want to apply to Yale NUS. Here’s a bit about my college background:

GPA: 3.7/4.0

  • All A’s in International Relations classes, Political Science classes, Business & Economics Classes
    Extracurriculars:
  • Founder and President of Model UN, Delegate, Co-Founder of Confucius Institute, Hertog Fellow in Washington DC (Political Studies program)

(note, my SAT’s weren’t stellar, i only got a 2000/2400 (Old SAT), but THIS YEAR, Yale-NUS is making their admissions TEST-OPTIONAL)

my goal is to work for the U.S State Department but i have side interests in Sales & Trading and Management Consulting…would a degree from Yale-NUS hamper my goals of working for the US Government as a US-China Diplomat?

Since Yale-NUS is still relatively new and only has been around for a decade i was thinking about founding a few new student organizations there… As far as the application goes, i was thinking about writing about bringing a Confucius Institute to Yale-NUS and bridging the East and the West as a prospective Global Affairs major at NUS and maybe even bringing the sport of lacrosse to Yale-NUS as well…

I’m hoping to receive the Global Leaders Scholarship there for a full ride, but the only downside of going is that i’ll be restarting my whole undergrad ALL OVER AGAIN (i have been at my current college for 2 and 1/2 years ish, not counting this semester) and i’m not sure if the US government would still value the Yale-NUS degree and im a little bit on the older side so once i graduate Yale-NUS, after 4 years there i’ll come out 24 or 25…

Thanks for reading and hoping to hear from you gusy soon!
