10 most expensive colleges

Not quite. In 2006-07, Harvard's tuition is $30,275 and Princeton's $33,000.

Columbia's tutition makes sense for being in NYC, but shouldn't NYU be close to the top 10 in that case? Also, my parents were pushing GW on me for undergrad over UMD. I kept telling them it was not worth the money (tuition is nearly twice what I would be paying for all costs at UMD) but they love prestige.

all most expensive and all not worth it.

room and board is pretty inexpensive at columbia comparing it to nyc real estate..just compare it with nyu.

What about Middlebury?

I can't believe Bucknell is that expensive. Just went there on a class field trip to colleges (mainly for Penn State) and was completely unimpressed. The outside of the buildings was really picturesque, but I was turned off by the lack of...well, anything...inside the actual classrooms. (My apologies to anyone who attends there...this is just my opinion.)

I didn't realize it was THAT expensive at the time. Actually, I guess no college is worth that kind of money.

What about Landmark College? Their tuition is $38,500. It is a really small school, and they only have a two year program, but it's still really expensive.

polkahard,

im sorry you didn't like bucknell - i seriously considered attending there and i thought it was great. I don't know how many colleges you've been to, but I can assure you of this much - bucknell's facilities are absolutely top notch. and there dorms are palaces - you won't ge finding cindar block.

silver,

landmark is a school for special needs kids - and therefore shouldn't really be put into the same category as these other schools.

Except Columbia, these schools aren't even that great in terms of prestige. I don't why people waste their money on such schools.

not everything is about prestige vtoodler...

Uhh Vassar and Wesleyan are top-notch and definitely worth the money if you can afford it.

It really would be more informative to have a list based on cost of attendance, which is a figure a college has to provide for financial aid purposes.

A lot of colleges set their price (either by raising tuition or by raising room and board charges) just to look more elite. Then they discount that price right and left for most customers. A lot of college students don't pay full list price. It's probably not too informative to know what list price is at a college, until you know what the typical discount offered by that college is.

Jags -- that's what I thought. But I remembered it being listed as "the most expensive college" in 2005 or something like that so I wasn't sure if they included it or not. I guess this brings up an interesting point of what defines a "college."

silver,

i don't mean to be rude here - but i do know a kid who goes to landmark. i wouldn't be surprised if it was a glorified daycare center heheh. doesn't suprise me in the least that its super expensive.

The Ivies have a high overall cost, but it includes a new croquet mallet, a foreign-born manservant, and Tucker Carlson's home phone number.

Oh please TourGuide, spare us the stereotypes. I don't care if you're joking or not. You know that people actually almost believe that sort of stuff on these forums, and its misleading. Ivies also give a great deal of financial aid to less affluent students.

i applied to urichmond but they meet 100% of everyones financial needs based on their site. which is the one reason why i applied, besides the fact that i really liked the campus

-So all that stuff about a manservant isn't true???? :(

these costs (tuition) are in fact true, it was reported on CNN. I'm sure the tuition for any state school aren't that much, some state school might be much better than these. But someone might get scholarships from these school and they should go.

Jags, you are partially correct, and partially not. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's a glorified daycare center, but they do have to charge a lot for the specialized program they offer. The professors are understanding, but in no way do they baby the students (my brother goes there). Most students there go on to transfer to other schools after either a couple of semesters or after completing the five semester program. So yes, it is expensive, but theose that go there generally agree that it's worth it.
