There’s no Rand brunch anymore?? What a shame. That was a staple when I was in school there.

I remember thinking parking was expensive when I was a student but now $200 doesn’t seem too bad. It costs that much per month in a lot of cities. I tried the free street parking for a semester. It’s not a bad option if you’re ok with leaving your car off campus.

I would say some of these things that Sometransfer^ thinks “suck” about Vandy are a matter of opinion and lack of perspective–my D thinks the food on campus is pretty good and likes that the Commodore Cash can be used at so many places off campus. Once the new College Halls at the corner of 21st and West End are done next year, there will some very nice upper class housing options (Chaffin, Mayfield and Blakemore are supposed to be pretty nice, just not as conveniently located). And at least ALL dorms are air conditioned which can’t be said for the dorms at Duke, UVA and UNC-CH.
Don’t know what an on-campus parking permit costs at Vanderbilt but my son, who is not at VU would have to pay $450 a year (ouch!) if he had a car where he goes. You are correct, Nashville is not New York City or Boston and public transport is limited to buses but they are free to Vandy students with your card (convenient for getting to Green Hills Mall) and many of the taxi cabs in N’ville will also take Commodore Cash which is nice.

I’ve seen some complaints about the main library–just let me say it’s looking much better than it did in my day! I found it vastly improved when I saw it this past February on my visit; and as pancaked ^ pointed out, there are plenty of other places on campus to study–Rand, study lounges in most dorms, and several other libraries on campus.
