I think KU is Kansas.
I really like Juillet’s point to look at many schools, too. People on CC tend to bash lower-ranked privates all the time (as a couple of posters above do.) But each is different, some offer lots of merit money or good specialized programs, and there are many bright kids everywhere. It doesn’t have to be Ivy or State U.

A public, tier 4 national university did pretty well for the Sereno family.

Below is a link to a Chicago Tribune article. All 6 kids went to Northern Illinois U for their undergrad degrees. All 6 of them have PhD’s from “prestigious” universities, such as Harvard, U of Chicago, Columbia and Brown. Five of them are neurological researchers, and the 6th is Paul Sereno, the famous paleontologist currently associated with U of Chicago and The Field Museum. Their father was a postal carrier and the mother was a teacher. All the kids worked while also attending NIU.

There was a picture of them as little kids in the print edition with a caption that listed their graduate schools and degrees, but it was left out in the online article.

Thanks for that post gladmom. So much of education is what you put into it. I was thinking about how many people I know who went to top ten universities and other than West Point grads, I couldn’t think of one. Of course, academy grads don’t have to worry about loans. I think we are entrenched in the middle class.
