10th Grade Applicants!

Sorry I’m kind of late to the party, but I’m a repeat 10th grade applicant and I got accepted to Deerfield, Hotchkiss, Exeter, and NMH!! I’m planning on going to a revisit day at DA, PEA, and Hotchkiss!

Also, another 10th grade applicant I was accepted into Andover and I will be attending there.

I, also like @2001JET, applied to Deerfield and SPS, but was rejected from Deerfield and Waitlisted at SPS. Kinda freaky the same thing happened to you as it did me. Hope you choose to go to Andover, you too @eldredgeknot, maybe all three of us will be friends there.

@PABlue01 That’s really funny, hope you chose to go to Andover.

Hi MABlue, I’ve been admitted to Andover and Choate for 10th grade-non repeat. I would like to read your perspective of Andover for a prospective 10th grader. I am international and still deciding on which of the two schools I should say yes to!

@mama3and1 Hey, I am currently a senior, so I can give you the advice you may want as a prospective tenth grader. Every year, we have quite a large number of new 10th graders(around 65 when I was in 10th grade), and new 10th graders tend to have no problem assimilating into the culture. As in international student, you will have a special orientation a few days before normal orientation, and this will help you get you bearings once you get to Andover. I think it would be easier to answer a more specific set of questions, so feel free to ask. That will make it easier for me to answer. You can also PM me with questions.

@MABlue Thank you. What’s the residence arrangement? Is it a mixture of grades in each residence?

As a new 10th grader, you will have a mix of grades in your residence. Generally your roommate, if you have one, will be in the same grade, however the hall/house will be mixed with students from grades 10,11,12, and PG. You will most likely be in a hall or a house. Halls are larger and more like a "typical"dorm. You could also be placed into a house. These have a different environment, since there is usually ten or less students, and only 1 house counselor. As the name would indicate, it feels more like living in a mix of an actual house and a dorm.

Below I have some formula’s from colleges, so most bs might use something similar to the ones below

Cornell’s DVM Admissions Formula
(vet school)
25% - Overall GPA
25% - GRE (verbal and quantitative) or MCAT
5% - Quality of Academic Program
20% - Animal/Veterinary/Biomedical Experience (supported with letters of evaluation)
10% - Non-Cognitive Skills
10% - All Other Achievements and Letters of Evaluation
5% - Personal Statement

University Of Iowa

(1 x Percentile class rank)
+
(2 x ACT composite score or SAT Equivalent)
+
(20 x Cumulative GPA)
+
(5 x Number of years of high school courses completed in the core subject areas)

There Is No Formula
posted in: Best of the Blogs, Process & Statistics

This whole “is there a formula to get into MIT” thing that’s been dominating College Confidential and the blog comments makes me sad. I understand that people want answers and explanations, but… alas.

Trying to define admissions with a formula is like trying to define life with a formula. It’s like trying to explain poetry using calculus. It would take the human component out of it, which is perhaps the most important part.
