UCF states “You MUST have a 1340 SAT” to apply for dual-enrollment. Period, end-of-story. Never mind the ONLY class this student wanted to take was an online math class not available at the local HS, never mind the student’s math sub score was better than the average college freshman entering that year, never mind the student was from a low income area and had to work extra hard to achieve the academic success without tutors or college educated parents, never mind the student had a 4.1 UW GPA, and never mind this student had a stout community service record…
… the student was still REJECTED.
I’m sorry but when a student shows that much promise at such an early age and has so much fire in their belly to want to attend that college, yet gets rejected, perhaps the rules should be re-evaluated. After all, exactly how many DE eligible students actually scored a 1340 or higher SAT in the state, much less in middle school???
Yes, the student moved on and took the class elsewhere and got an A but promises to never, ever, repeat that mistake of applying to UCF again.
