$14,000 left Uncovered, What Can I do!?

After my schools Financial Aid of $17,000 ($5,000 in loans) I was left with $14,000 uncovered. My EFC was like $1,000...but should have been zero because my mom is unemployed and I don't have a dad. I was denied EVERY private loan I applied for, from the signature using 2 different cosigners, to a private chase loan doing the same. My mom and grandma were both rejected for the PLUS loan. The financial aid office says that qualifies me for an additional $4,000 in stafford loans, leaving $10,000...but brings my loans up to $9,000 already. What do they expect me to do! They don't seem to care at all that I can't pay. And I simply don't see ANY options for me at this point. I cannot go to a local community college, and I have called around to other colleges that I was accepted to (who offered more aid) and they said it was too late for me to still go and that they gave my aid away already. What can I do!? Please..give me any possible options? And please don't say "take a year off" or "go to a local community college". Thanks guys..

UMM.. thasta rough spot Finaid is tricky.. did u misunderstand the offers before- maybe they would help you out

how about private scholarships- not loans.. the ones where u write an essay or s/t random...

has anyone in ur family been in a union? i know my grandfathers union offers almost a thousand dollars to kids/grandkids of their unionees

have u called up WVU and asked for admission? maybe you could attend that and then transfer out... if u opted not to go to WVU before, then i have to say that comunity college does sound liek an option.

How about researchin colleges that will let you apply this late.. maybe theres a chance that a school you overlooked before will be willing to help

The fin-aid benefits to defferring a year are variable by the school.. haev you asked them if it would change your work-study/grants etc

k.. and i dotn mean to sound calllous- but why didnt this come up before u accepted the school's offer?

Well..before I accepted their offer I called them about it. They said "we will work with you on it", so I figured they would add more, but I didn't know they would add only about $1,000 more.
Also...how did you know I was close to WVU and that it was my in-state school? And by the way..WVU said I had already passed the deadline to enroll.

As awful as this sounds, it would be MORE awful for you to be able to get all those loans - they will totally destroy your options in the future. Take a year and work, work, work... save your money, then reapply to a range of schools that will give you some better financial aid. I'm sorry, but it would be absolutely foolish to take out $20,000 of loans for one year of schooling. How about ROTC scholarships, or moving to a state where you would like to attend the public school and working for a few years while you gain residency? Or work during the day and attend night classes. It sounds harsh, but there is a REASON why they won't let you take out those loans..they konw that you will not be able to pay them back without incredible effort and a whole lot of good luck. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you need to change your plans. :(

Perhaps think of Spring semester 2008 at a state school.

The loans will kill you. Better to work and earn the money to pay a more affordable tuition.

Lots of people work their way through school.

If you have no money and want a good education your in-state school is usually your cheapest and best bet.
Aim for spring semester at WVU. Make sure your finaid is set (don't assume they will give you another free ride) before you accept.

Sorry, but you have few choices. It would be insane to borrow that money even if you could. Sounds like your rents have made bad financial choices and don't want you to do the same. Your choices are what you've asked us not to suggest.

u posted this like 100 other times... i just read ur other posts to see which state u it was

im really thinking ur only option is to enroll here one year, take a year off or community college it

after the one year at ur school, thne u can either reapply for aid or transfer somewhere where the aid will be better
