Would it be too long? or would any college accept that? i wonder if any of u guys want to read this.... iam applying to Columbia ED

Way too long. Columbia recommends 250-500.

I think it depends on the flow -- if it's impossible to read and boring, they're going to stop at around 500. However, if it holds their attention I think you might be ok...still a huge risk though -- you can always cut down.

PM me, would be happy to help.

whoa...
even if it was interesting, the essay is too long
cut it downnn

after maybe 700 or so words they would begin to get annoyed. after all, they suggest 500 words and if you write a lot more than that you would look disrespectful and like a person that ignores instructions and guidelines

do u guys want to read the essay? i am going to pm it to u guys ... please help... it's LATE.......

Much too long.

so u guys mean there's no chance for me AT ALL? if i send this 1414 word essay?

No, essays imo are not normally "make or break" by themselves.

My opinion, though, is that such length reduces the chances of the essay being a positive factor in the admissions process.

I've read a lot of college essays. Every real long one that I've seen could be reduced substantially without compromising the point, the impression of the essay. In fact, imo, shortening such an essay strengthens it; conciseness, power are virtues in college writing.

Don't fall in love with your own writing. If an applicant requires hundreds of extra words, bordering on one thousand extra words, to reveal him/herself, how does that help him/her relative to others? I don't think it does.

arr any u of u willing to read this... i promise that this essay of mine is DIFFERENT. its' ORIGINAL cuz iam an international students.

Cut it down. If it was 100 words too long that would be one thing, but yours is over twice the recommended maximum length. I'll read it to help you cut it down if you want (I'm '09 but I've already written mine).

Well, I've read plenty of essays from international students, from all over the world. I agree that such essays can have a lot to offer. I also know that those essays were nowhere near 1400 words.

yeah i agree wth u.. my essay is way too long.. that's why I NEED PPL TO READ IT FOR ME AND HELP ME... OMG THE DEADLINE IS NEXT WEEK.. IS IT BAD IF I SUBMIT THE DAY BF THE DEADLINE??

calm down
lol
i wanna read it.

tell me where u're aplying to and i will send it over to you...

I won't apply to Columbia.you can see it in my essay or in my chance thread.
i want to read your longggggg essay and help you to cut.

i am applying to 10 unis, mostly ivy, all RD. I took a gap year.
last year i made the mistake of sending a 1500 word essay. dint get accepted in most of unis, though it may have been for other reasons besides the essay.

Anyways, I feel that your essay is way too long. Really. It may really really irritate the adcomms, even your essay is great. you could pm it to me, as a person battling through the same challenge (writing short essays) i could be of some help.

You can send it over if you want to, I'm an international as well, but I'll graduate in 2010..

ill read it
lol
send it

yeah kool iam gonna send it over...
