Okay, so my GPA is a 4.27 (4.0 unweighted), I have a 2050 SAT and 32 ACT, 8 APs total, tons of theater work, NHS, a job, 2 instances of volunteer work, 2 tutoring experiences, several school clubs, and a few academic awards (nothing major). I did not take the SAT Subject tests, my school doesn’t rank (although it is #1 in PA) and I’m pretty sure my recs were solid. I’m planning on being an education major for English, and I applied to a ton of places but I have no idea what my chances are nor where is best to attend for me. I have an intense work ethic, but I’m also outgoing; I want to balance academics with socialization. Here are my schools:
University of Pittsburgh
Saint Joseph’s University
Penn State Schreyers
Dickinson College
Haverford College
Lehigh University
University of Vermont
American University (AU Honors and Frederick Douglass Scholarship)
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Elon University
Wake Forest University
College of William and Mary
University of Richmond
Ithaca College
Syracuse University
I think you should check which school has the best English major and then maybe pick those schools out first? And then you can list out your preferences for a school: size, student to teacher ratio, location…etc and then see which schools match with your schools. Good Luck!!!
Definitely look into each department and see which philosophy fits with you. After that initial round, feel free to eliminate any schools that do not flow as well. Then look into the rankings, and go from there. All in all, prestige can help in the acquisition of a future career to a mild extent, so try to pick a college with more prestige (despite all of the colleges being great ) like Syracuse, CWM, Dickinson, and Haverford (assuming you get into all of them).
University of Pittsburgh - match
Saint Joseph’s University - i really have no clue about this school so sorry lmao
Penn State Schreyers - possible match??? idk what the credentials for Schreyers are
Dickinson College - no clue lol
Haverford College - yup no clue again
Lehigh University - match/low reach
University of Vermont - safety
American University (AU Honors and Frederick Douglass Scholarship) - match
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill - match
Elon University - match/low reach
Wake Forest University - idk
College of William and Mary - idk
University of Richmond - idk
Ithaca College - safety

To build on the persons above me post; Dickinson and St. Josephs is probably a safety, while Haverford and College of William and Mary are reaches. The rest are safety’s.
Are finances an issue? Have you run the net price calculator for each school? Have you visited any of the schools in your list – if not, when do you plan to visit?
