I am an international student and I managed to get a 1570 on my first attempt! It’s the highest SAT score ever reached by a student in my high school and my principal will be giving me an award for that. Does that then count as an “Academic Award” on the Common App?
Additionally, I studied by myself, basically just doing the 8 free practice tests on the CollegeBoard website, because I couldn’t afford any SAT tutor/cram schools. So I kind of want to highlight that I surpassed a lot of expectations, but is that weird/braggy?
No, a high SAT score is not considered to be an “academic award”.
Yes, it would be inappropriate to brag about your SAT scores on a college application. In fact, doing so might harm your chances of admission as you might appear to lack other accomplishments & qualities.
Yes. No college cares about how you prepared for the SATs. They care about the results.
This is the HS equivalent of the gold star that my kindergarten teacher used to put on pictures. If your HS is giving out awards for that, you should assume that an AO will think that the school administration is channeling Oprah: “You get an award! You get an award! You get an award! You get an award! Everybody gets an award!”
