16 hours

Hello I am going to be an incoming freshmen at the University of Tulsa and I am wondering your opinion on me taking 16 hours as a freshmen. I dropped biology so instead of 18 I am now taking 16. Here is my schedule.
ANTH 1063-01 (Culture, People, & Nature) – M/W 2:00-3:15pm
SPAN 1014-04 (Beginning Spanish II) – MTWF 9:00-9:50am
BUS 1001-08 (Business Orientation) – T 12:30-1:20pm
MIS 1001-08 (Intro to Spreadsheets) – TH 12:30-1:20pm
MATH 2014-03 (Calculus I) – MWF 11:00-11:50am
MATH 2010-Q16 (Calculus I Quiz) – T/TH 5:00-5:50pm
PHYS 1013-01 (Introductory Physics I) – T/TH 11:00-12:15pm

I am not sure if I should drop one more or if 16 is going to be fine. I really have no idea what to expect. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks

you should be taking 15 credit hours a semester so 16 is fine. You should be taking 15 hours a semester so you will have 30 after your first year making you a sophomore and 60 after the second year making you a junior 90 after the third being a senior and finishing your fourth year with 120 to graduate on time.

If you don’t have a job then 16 credits shouldn’t be an issue, I would do it even though it looks like more than 16 units?. Those intro classes shouldn’t be too bad, except for Calculus and Physics. At my school those classes would add up to 20 hours.

Again, the Calculus and Physics is what you will be spending most of the time on. If you are confident with your algebra skills then you should be good. Counselors are usually all about telling students to take it easy the first semester, but forget to mention that by taking it easy you end up with harder classes stacked up later on. Good luck.

Okay, thanks guys. My counselor said that the two intro classes weren’t too bad. I was originally signed up to take biology too, but I decided to put that off until next semester. Calculus is one of my weaker subjects so that is why I was wondering if my schedule should be fine. Also one more question and I know it is probably out of preference, but my math quiz class at 5-5:50 is also available at 8-8:50. I am wondering if you guys who have already taken classes would say I should do the morning one instead.

I don’t like having math in the morning. My reasoning is that if you want to study before a test then you have to do it all the night before, or get up early. If you have it in the afternoon, you can study between other classes during the day when you aren’t tired. Would you rather get up at 8:00AM and be done at 1:20PM, or have your first class at 11:00AM and be off at 5:50? You can be successful either way.

Hello, I am also considering adding a physics lab to my schedule. If I did so my counselor said I should probably drop another class not to be overwhelmed. I was wondering what you guys thought, because if I do that and drop a class it seems like I would not be taking that many hours. Also how hard would it be to keep a 3.0 throughout college?
