<p>i took 18.03 last spring and mattuck <em>wasn't</em> teaching it (an apparent aberration) and no, i can't recommend his colleague particularly highly. he was thorough and posted amusingly detailed lecture notes (diffeq in ascii art, anyone?) but found him rather dry, and not enthralling enough for my ADD self. to his credit, however, most of my problems with the course as a whole aren't really about the lecturer; the structure and certain methods of presenting the material are rather a mess. mattuck, otoh, has at least one and maybe two quote repositories that i know of, and damn are they funny.</p>
<p>so: in general, if you're going to have a problem with 18.03 or not, it's probably independent of the lecturer, so given a choice, mattuck is probably more entertaining than the alternative.</p>
