Here’s what I’m taking:
Social Dance, Beginning (1–this is just for fun, but it is a credit hour)
Writing and Rhetoric (3–I took AP Lang this year and got straight A’s, but it was recommended to take a first-year writing regardless of AP classes. If I passed the AP test, then it’s probably going to be dropped.)
Intro to English Studies (3)
Writing Creative Nonfiction (3)
English Department Reading Series (1–apparently this is an easy class in terms of grading where you just sort of listen to a guest reader every week and write a report about it. Or something. It seemed fun.)
US Since 1877 (3–generals course)
Honors Intro (2–required for honors program)
Foundations of the Restoration (2)
So technically it’s more like 16 if you take out the relatively easy courses (social dance and English Dept reading series), and I did do fine in AP Lang. But is it too much for freshman year, especially at BYU which I’ve heard is quite rigorous? I also plan to have a 20 hr/week job and am worried about the burnout. The studying won’t be an issue because I really like all of the subjects and genuinely want to learn about them (excluding the Restoration one, which is more of a “meh” sort of deal) What are college classes like compared to AP classes? Would it be best to drop one of them and if so which?
