I keep seeing people refer to schools as 1st 2nd or 3rd tier schools. What schools would be considered 1st 2nd or 3rd tier. I mean obviously ivies would 1st tier, but what schools would be in each tier?

It’s generally whatever US World And News Report says is in which tier.

That’s super easy.

If the kid bashes Ivy League or any of the top 20 school for ANY reason, he’s from 2nd or 3rd tier.

I think captainclucless is talking about tiers within the 1st tier of US news rank… People have general idea which colleges are better than the others.

1st Tier tend to be usually HYPSM + Remaining Ivies. 1.5 Tiers are basically the ones on CC Top universities… The idea of 1st/2nd tier varies a lot from people to people.

Actually, if you read the US News descriptor, Tier 1 is the top 100 schools. I’m not sure what the cut off for 2, 3 and 4 is.

Let’s try to remember that Ivies aren’t the only good schools out there!
