2+4 PharmD Program Fafsa Question

Year 3, 1st year of the PharmD program, was at the undergrad rate of tuition. Year 4, 2nd year of the PharmD program, jumps to graduate school tuition.

So when completing our famly FAFSA, do I check off that this student is in the first year of a professional degree, or that this student is a 4th yr/senior in college? As a Senior, the parental income gets reported. As a grad student, parental income is omitted.

I'm so confused.

Hopefully Swimcatsmom or Kelsmom will chime in here, but on an earlier post, it was said that at some point with these kinds of programs, the student moves from undergrad status to grad status for FA purposes.

Can you call the school’s FA office and ask?

I would suggest asking your school what you should put. I know from previous posters that at some point in such programs it does change from undergrad to grad making the student eligible for independent status and grad loans, but making them ineligible for federal grant aid such as the Pell grant (which is for undergrads only). Ask your school.

Varies by school but this should be the info you’re looking for:

The first professional year of the PharmD program is considered undergraduate for the purpose of tuition and fees, regardless of your educational background. The second, third, and fourth professional years of the PharmD program are considered graduate PharmD for the purpose of tuition and fees. After the first year, out-of-state students may obtain residency and qualify for in-state tuition.
