<p>1) No it doesn't matter, unless you are hoping to go into high profile fields of research...but there is a "shortage" or at least very few people who go on to get their MD/PhD that you'd be in demand no matter where you got those degrees.</p>
<p>2) Short answere: Basically the weighting of two main factors. Research places a huge emphasis on the $amount of research grants received, while PC put almost as large of emphasis on the % of grads who enter into primary care fields.</p>
<p>Alumni networking is somehow important. Once my family memeber needed referal from family doctor -> Surgeon -> Radiologist -> Oncologist, it happened that all those doctors were graudated from the same school (UCLA).</p>
