2 Minors with Major in Aerospace Engineering Feasible?

I am hoping to attend The University of Michigan next year and I plan on majoring in Aerospace Engineering. Today, I was looking over possible minors that I might take and there were two that I absolutely want because they are of great interest to me. These two minors are: Biological Anthropology and Epistemology and Philosophy of Science.

For an Epistemology and Philosophy of Science minor, only 4 courses are required. So that's only two years if I do one course per semester to complete, right?

For Biological Anthropology "at least 16 hours" are required for a minor. Would this take up 4 years to complete?

So, would I be able to pull off these two minors while majoring in Aerospace Engineering? Last year I took AP Calculus AB and scored a 4 on the exam. This year I am taking AP Calculus BC and I am focusing on getting a 5. Will this make it any easier?

16 hours is 4 4 credit classes, or 5 3 credit classes plus 1 1 credit class. In other words, it might work out to not be any more work than the other minor you are looking at. If all of the courses are 4 credits, you could theoretically have one Anthro course every fall, and one EPS course every spring, and finish both minors. But of course, that assumes there is room in your schedule.

To see how this could all fit together, print out the specific graduation requirements for your major. Figure out how many elective credits and/or distribution credits you could cover with coursework required for each of the minors. Then, see how many credits from each of them that you can’t fit into the degree program. You don’t necessarily have to take enough courses to complete a full minor. You could just take one or two and see what you think.

Good luck!

Aerospace Engineering at UMich is no joke. Your classmates will all be very highly qualified students just like you. Aim high but be realistic as well . Do you want your major to suffer gradewise? Are you THAT capable of doing three separate disciplines? Most kids at UMich (equally or more qualified than you) would never broach the idea.

But you have plenty of time to decide. Best of luck to you.

EDIT: I see that you’re a UMich aspirant, not yet admitted. Focus on that first. Admittance is not a cake walk either.

Ugh, why do we have to eat the whole cake all the time? Can’t you just cherry pick the class or two that sounds fascinating? Why go for the whole minor?

Remember, you have to pick one pony to ride into the future. One. You can have lots of interests and passions but it is sad to see a kid exhaust herself trying to maximize degree certificates.

Graze a bit the first two years. Try a class of this and a class of that. Then start thinking about what certification you need to get your favorite pony out of the barn.
