Currently I have 2 years of Spanish, but I do not want to take another year of Spanish because I know I will not be able to get an A in Spanish 3.
Is 1 more year of spanish going to make a difference? I hope to attend CAL, and I know they recommend 3 years. My academics are pretty good, so is my extracurricular.

er...dude take it, if only for UC...there's no way you can attend Cal w/ 2yrs of language

if it's too hard, do a conversation class at your local CC (don't start a new language)

Personally, I would do what was recommended of me UNLESS I filled that time up with something I truly enjoyed.

I was in a similar predicament this year with my schedule. I was battling between taking an AP math or taking AP Music Theory. I chose music theory because I LOVE music and I technically already had 4 years of math (in my school if you're in the honors program, you start high school math in 8th grade).

er...dude, no.

I personally know 3 kids who were accepted to UCB with two years of language. As long as you're otherwise outstanding, they're not going to reject you just for not having the extra year. A-G only recommends 3 years, not requires.

I dunno. I personally would take the third year, ESPECIALLY because you very well could end up changing your first-choice college[s] and then want to go somewhere that DOES require 3 years. Plus, 2 years is .. well.. kind of lame. lol.

Question: We live in CA so my son will probably apply to some of the UCs and therefore is following the A-G requirements. S has two years of Spanish going into this, his junior year. As a sophomore, he took AP Spanish IV and scored an A+ in the class and a 5 on the AP exam.

The reason he's not taking AP Spanish V this year is because he has to fit in the UC required one year "fine arts" requirement and can't fit it it over the summer.

This means he could still take AP Spanish V his senior year, thereby getting three years of language in. However, given that his major in college will likely be some math/science, is is that important that he take AP Spanish V his senior year, as he'll probably have another AP he wants to take? After all, he's already passed one of the AP Spanish classes with flying colors.

^ I agree.
My major is more related to engineering/computer so I decided to switch spanish 3 and take Computer Science w/ business instead. Personally, I don't believe 1 more year will make much of a difference since I am a Senior and all the grades are pretty much set.

heh i naturally assumed that OP was going do a LA major...although I personally would still do the language just for the love of it
