2 questions about ea

Question #1: What percentage of people are generally accepted EA? How many RD? Is there much of an advantage to EA?

Question #2: Is it true they you submit your application by nov. 15 and hear back by jan. 15?

thanks

I'm pretty sure the answer to your second question is yes. I applied Early Action, and I heard back by January 15.

Advantages of EA:
Relief knowing that you have an acceptance in January without any legal commitment on your part to the school.
Shows the school that you are interested in Case and that your application is not just a last-minute try to get merit scholarships. Colleges tend to hand out merit awards until they run out of money...you get to be near the first in line--although this might not be completely accurate, it seems that the college would want to entice someone who is really interested in attending over someone who was turned down from another college and is just considering Case because they need SOMEPLACE to go.
Once you know for sure that you want to attend there, you can reserve your spot in the class and get your housing preferences sent in before the other students.

Disadvantages of EA: You need to be super organized in order to get your application filled out, the essay written, the testing done, and get your references sent in for the early deadline.

whether or not you apply ea, you'll probably get into Case, they have like a 70% admittance rate.

I don't think that is the case anymore (70% admission rate). This year they had over 7,000 applications (last year was 5,500). With all the advertising they have been doing it must be working! Great school!

A rep visited my school during my Junior year. I was the only kid who showed up to the meeting (my counselor even thanked me for coming). They didn't come during my senior year though. Hopefully, they'll visit again, since I'm going. Very few people from my school know about it. Mostly only guys who were interested in engineering heard about it. And they only learned about it during their college search in their senior year.

Hopefully, people will remember it from the V.P. debate even though it was a joke.

I don't think they even came to my school. Most people don't even think they're qualified to apply, though I know lots of people who could probably get in.

anyways, I applied EA and I got in. I recieved my response on the 12th or something. I didn't apply to my safety University of Rochester because of it. I was almost finished with my application in fact.

celebrian,
definately apply ea next year. They got lot of deposits this year, and will be having a larger freshman class than last year.

ohio_mom: how many are in next year's FR class? Is this information on line?

I think the final number of students that confirmed at Case is 1220!!! (the class of 2008 only had about 740 students confirm). The link to the website that shows this is
<a href="http://admission.case.edu/db.htm%5B/url%5D">http://admission.case.edu/db.htm</a>
but the fun part of watching the graphs change is all done :-)

There's also this:

<a href="http://www.case.edu/news/2005/5-05/admission.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.case.edu/news/2005/5-05/admission.htm</a></p>

This year was very successful, and it doesn't look like they will go to the wait list. The average SAT also went up over 20 points.

so much for the low student to teacher ratio. maybe they'll have to hire new teachers. or maybe all those students won't enroll in my major. or maybe the number of people enrolling is not large enough to make a difference in how many people are in each class. I wonder what they'll do with all the extra money once they've paid the current faculty and such.

I think they are doing a wonderful job. I just love the new President's philosophy & the vision of what Case can become. I don't think we need to worry about what they will be doing with the "extra" money, I'm sure that they will have many new people to hire and to put into the new projects that they are developing. Go Case!!

I wonder if last year was a small FR class. Nowhere does it say that this year is a record for number of incoming FR in CWRU's history, although it was a record for applications.

<a href="http://admission.case.edu/admissions/academics/profile.asp%5B/url%5D">http://admission.case.edu/admissions/academics/profile.asp</a></p>

The number of undergraduates is listed at 3,587 so an overall average class is about 900. If last year truly was only 740, then with attrition the 1,152 number is probably about on target to keep the school at the same size. I believe I read in the 2012 Master Plan that they do plan to increase the size of the undergraduate school.

BTW, since the new housing has 750 spots, this means that not every entering class of 2009 FR will be able to live there. [Yes, I realize some want to live off campus or live in the Greek system.]

Interesting that some think more students means more money. Between financial aid grants and merit awards, more students could mean tighter budgets.

WS17 -
Yes, they didn't get the numbers they wanted last year for initial acceptances, and the FR class was too small. Even with attrition, this year's FR class is going to be larger. However, many of the departments were actively hiring this spring, so the number of prof's should be ok.

This is good news.

y dont u guys apply ea to harvard or stanford? ea is good prestigous schools... but theres no need otherwise

xokandykyssesox - for most of us Case is a prestigous school. It is named in the top 50 universities which is very good. It is an excellent school and I would advise anyone who wants to go there to apply EA if it is one of their top two school choices. They offer excellent fin. aid & merit scholarships (which many top schools do NOT offer). Sorry if we are not interested in "brand name" schools. We love Case!!!

Case is EA, not Single-Choice-EA. (Just like MIT. ;) ) Therefore there is no reason not to apply EA vs RD. I agree that merit $ is more likely to be available EA; once it's all gone, it's gone. All it takes is knowing the deadlines and getting it all in on time.

As for prestige, I hope it continues to remain unknown long enough for my younger kids to go there. :)
