<p>I'm not sure if this should be two posts but I'm trying to find out if there are any schools that offer American Sign Language as an option to fulfill a foreign language requirement and also what schools have a 4-1-4 schedule. For the latter question, I know Elon does and just learned on another thread that Williams does as well.</p>
<p>D2, entering senior, has Elon as her first choice at the moment with Bucknell as her second. She loves the idea of a 4-1-4 schedule but does not have a particular aptitude for foreign languages. Elon requires 2 semesters and Bucknell 1. </p>
<p>She's close to finalizing her list and I want to make sure we haven't overlooked any good options. She has about a 3.5 from a highly regarded private college prep school and a 2040 on her SAT although she'd like to raise one of her scores so she'll retake it in October. Not sure what she wants to study yet so I think a school that requires students to take a wide variety of classes the first 1-2 years would be a good option for her.</p>
<p>Any info on the ASL or schedule questions or just school suggestions in general would be most welcome and appreciated!</p>
<p>I wouldn’t worry too much about Elon’s foreign language requirement. All incoming Elon freshmen take a foreign language placement test and my D, who will be starting at Elon in the fall, found it wasn’t very hard to score high enough to fulfill the foreign language requirement without ever taking FL at Elon. </p>
<p>D took regular college-prep level Spanish from 8th grade thru 11th grade (Spanish 1 - 4), and did ok at it, mostly about B+/A- but she never felt very comfortable with it. She took Elon’s placement test with zero prep at the spring orientation nearly a year after her last Spanish class. They only have to score at the intermediate level to fulfill the foreign language requirement, which she did.</p>
<p>Oberlin and St. Olaf both have 4-1-4 schedules. I don’t know if either of them will accept ASL as a language but you can always ask.</p>

<p>I suspect you’ll have to contact the school to determine whether ASL will be accepted in lieu of a foreign language requirement. I couldn’t find an exhaustive list of 4-1-4 colleges. This partial list is from Wiki:</p>

<p>You might also want to consider looking for schools with a 4-4-1 schedule. Illinois Wesleyan is the one that immediately comes to my mind. But I don’t know about their language requirement.</p>
