First. I am a senior and I will be taking my SAT for the second time. Note, I am not going to any top tier schools, probably a mid level UC at best.

Anyways, I picked up the "Blue Book", and I just wanted to know if you guys know of any strategies to use with the book. This question may seem silly, but I really don't know where to start with this thing.

Second, how does "rushing" SAT scores work, and how fast do they get there? Thanks

For the blue book, I took all eight test, timed. The math and writing are pretty straight forward. For the essays, I would read part of the section and example essays and then practice some in the 25 minute time restraint. For reading, I tried a few different approaches to see how I did best. At first, I read the passages, then answered questions. Then I tried reading the questions first, then reading the passage, and answering questions. It depends on the person.
It takes two days to rush once you get the scores back. When you get them back, go to "send scores to colleges" and it gives you the option to rush.

I would actually work on SAT strategy before you go too far into the Blue Book. I used Cracking the SAT and would recommend it. Learn how to really do each question type, then get cranking on the practice tests. I'd do the first 1-2 untimed and see which sections are your weak areas. You can get separate workbooks for each section with extra practice (so you don't blow through all your tests).

Work on one weak area at a time, for at least an hour or two, targeting one question type at a time. Work on a different one the next day. By the time the weekend rolls around, you're ready for another practice test. Do that one timed, and see how you improved in your weak areas. Of course, don't neglect the areas you did well in...you'd be surprised at how easily you can lose points in those areas if you don't practice them too.

Hope this helps.
