1) I am interested in both CAS (for Political Science) and Peabody for Human Organizational Development. I am completely interested in both- if I attended I would want to double major. So, my question is which school should I apply to under the common app where it says "school to which you are applying." There is an option just beneath it that says If you are interested in an alternate Vanderbilt school, please indicate here. If I do this do they consider me for admission to both, or do they only accept me to the "primary" one (under the to which I am applying section)? I understand that peabody is generally easier to get in to (as a guy at least), however, if I was forced to only have one major at vanderbilt I would have to choose political science in CAS. So, what should I do? Any advice or information about how admissions works is greatly appreciated. Just FYI incase it helps your advice I have a 33 ACT, 2190 SAT, 4.0 UW GPA, Top 2%, TONS of leadership (supports my interest in HOD...).

2) I am applying for Ingram scholars and it requires two recommendations. If I send two recs for this program can I/ should I send the same two on the common app? I only have two viable recs and it is too short of notice to get special ones for ingram.. Thanks for the help!

Just list A&S as your primary and Peabody as another interest. People in Peabody tend to stay in Peabody. It’s much more common for an A&S student to pick up a second major in Peabody.

They allow you to list a second school because they’re basically curious if you’re interested in a major at a different school. Apparently, you might get rejected by your first choice school and accepted by your second choice, but I’ve never heard of that actually happening. I don’t really get it. Once you’re in to any school (other than Blair I guess), it’s really easy to transfer schools or pick up major/minors at other schools, so don’t worry too much about it.

No idea about the scholarship. My guess is that they look at your CommonApp for scholarship consideration, and thus want different letters, but I could be wrong. Email someone at the FinAid office.

I would actually apply to Peabody if you think it plays to your strengths. You have the best chance of being admitted to the school that reflects your application best. So if you’re feeling Peabody, go for it, and go CAS second. It is extremely easy to switch between CAS and Peabody, and not too difficult to double, especially if you’re doing Poli Sci and an HOD major. With your stats, assuming the rest of your application is good, good essay, ECs, etc., you should have a decent shot at either school. Don’t overthink it, if they want you at Vandy you’ll get into either school, but I would still go Peabody

My D had similar stats & applied for Ingram. She did not get it, and the students who did were AMAZING. I would get different recs for Ingram than you used on the CommonApp. The recs for Ingram should address your leadership abilities, not your academic abilities. The focus for Ingram is service and leadership … in order to be competitive, your recs need to address your accomplishments in these areas.

ive actually heard from multiple people that its better to make peabody your primary school and pick up a second major in A&S. that way you can avoid all of the AXLE requirements. peabody’s liberal arts requirements are generally easier to fulfill
